Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

I'm heading to the Toronto show this summer (if we get a summer) and I'm very much looking forward to it. Hiromi is amazing.

Glad you enjoyed the show and thank you for the pics and review.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Wow!!!

I have a PHX kit that didn't cost much more than that without the snare in the same sizes.

Increased margins!

Re: Yamaha PHX - am I missing something?

My only complaint...no snare! Seems like a missed opportunity.

Re: Yamaha PHX - am I missing something?

The PHX bass drum is obscene! I have a 16 x 22 and it sounds processed. When I set it up my wife, a musician herself, came downstairs to ask me what the heck I was doing.

Right now I'm...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

There is Vinnie and then the rest of us!

I state this not that he is my all time fav, he's close, but that I'm reasonably certain he could play ANYTHING and improve it.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

I saw the Toronto show, which was great, and Vinnie was awesome!

Is it the angle, Vinnie sitting higher or is that a 20 inch kick? He looks tall.

Re: Drum Maker.com-Andy Foote-Consider Yourselves Warned

You have a limited window in which to do this and once closed you're out of luck. Three guesses as to how I know this and the first two don't count!

Re: Yamaha PHX - am I missing something?

I just took delivery of a new PHX kit in solid black and they are awesome. I've never seen a deeper black on a drum set.

I can't speak to Mullen Jr's kit, but all the other colours below are...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I'm not surprised the relocation of manufacturing didn't reduce the price as much as you'd think.

When the Live Custom kit was released a dealer I know pretty well was honest and stated that he...

Re: Yamaha Drums

The difference between Japanese and Chinese labour costs. The unanswered question is whether they're of 30% less quality. Time will tell.

Re: Gadd ... playing Evans?

When I ordered the drums the store called the Yamaha rep and he arranged for a kit to be shipped to Canada. That same rep was responsible for filling the rider and called the store to get my contact...

Re: Gadd ... playing Evans?

The short version of the story is that I (apparently) have the only Gadd Signature kit in Canada and he was in Ottawa and Toronto for the respective jazz festivals and used my kit on both occasions....

Re: Gadd ... playing Evans?

My understanding is that it was a house kit stocked with Evans heads. There are a limited number of his signature kits and I'm not surprised you see him on other Yamaha's a lot.

His preference is...
