Re: Blast beats

When people give say "I can play 250bpm" they usually mean they can play 16th notes at that tempo. I guess 16th notes have kinda just become the standard to measure speed in the metal world.

Re: Blast beats

Ok, in my opinion, I do not believe that when you are starting blast beats you need to practice hand foot stuff. I believe, and Derek says in one of his videos, that getting hand foot up to blasting...

Help on a fill

It sounds pretty cool.

Re: Rock drummers 'are top athletes'

I still don't agree that rock drummers are on par with other athletes. Your average joe can pick up a pair of sticks, and batter the drum set with the same intensity, and at the same rate as the guy...

Re: Rock drummers 'are top athletes'

I play mostly metal and stuff, but I'll be the first to tell you that drumming is not as fitness related as something like football. In any sport like that, the amount of running gets you exhausted,...

Re: Need help with double bass speed and relaxation!

Those exercises aren't absolutely necessary, they are just to help. I have never done them and I've worked my speed up to a respectable level just by playing to songs. In my opinion, it's a lot...

Re: how do you play double bass?

What are you using for weights on the shaft? Are they purely for practice, or for you to get more volume out of the drum?

Re: Drumming to the band Battles

Why is his one cymbal obscenely high? At the end of a set does he leap over his set to do a majestic crash? That was the only scenario I could think of.

Re: What is this fill?

Ok thanks man, I've heard so many guys do that fill but never knew what it was. Jordison was just the example. He's good, but not the god a lot of people make him out to be.

What is this fill?

Hey, could someone please tell me what this fill is at the 35 second mark? And no, I'm not a Joey Jordison lover, I just saw this video and wanted to know how to play that fill. I've heard it...

Re: Speed Categories

400bpm in jazz is not nearly as awesome as 300 in metal!!

Re: George Kollias

I think it's in The Chosen Legacy that he goes 300 or whatever. It definitely isn't in The Sacreligious Scorn cause I practice to that song and there's no way I can go 300!

Re: is the foot supposed to be constantly be in contact with pedal?

For slower speeds you can use your whole leg, that is perfectly fine and that's how you should be doing it. At medium speeds you kinda start using a combination of your leg and your ankle, and then...

Soloing over Samba Foot Pattern

Hey all, today my jazz band director turned a four bar solo into a 32 bar one(much to my dismay). Anyways, he wants me to start out with a full samba while comping in my left hand, and then...

Re: For the Young Guns: What Is Your Goal?

In 40 years I would just like to be playing drums as a living. My drum teacher teaches, plays in a few bands, and teaches at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, I wouldn't mind doing something...

Re: Best Pro metal kit!

What he said. Don't just buy what someone endorses, check out some sets yourself and see what you like best. Also, I believe Daniel triggers a few of his drums, and those other guys may too, so that...

Re: Doublebass Speed

I can, and do practice at slower tempos for longer periods of time. The problem is, that motion does not help me at all at higher speeds. At 120 I am using the entirety of my leg and it uses very...

I just started using ankles recently too. I also have the same problem as you, with just using ankles its much harder to control, at least at first. I've just been using all ankles at about 190-200...
