Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

The total weight of the shell alone will be about 4 lbs ( or 1.86 kg) assuming a density for stainless steel of 8 g/cc
Not as heavy as I thought, but with lugs and rims will add up.
i'm sure you...

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

...as the story goes, so was Paul Simon, who went down there to get a black sound/groove.

the wonderful thing of music, no visuals, you make up your own.

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Interesting, let us know how it goes, pics and all.
I can imagine at 9.5 mm thick it will be quite heavy and not much ring or resonance, for sure very unique.

Re: Advice please?

Keep it simple. As Steve Jordan said: "Simple doesn't have to mean stupid".

Be able to listen. Forget about fills, and being showy.
Bring your own snare, pedal or even cymbals, if that helps you...

Re: Fantastic Peter Erskine video

Very moving piece.... love his spirit and temperament.

Re: Snare problems

I can't exactly picture what you're saying, so some pics may help.
But on the reso, tighten to the same tension, or in other words the same tone at each lug (tap one inch in from the lug to hear...

Re: George Way Drum Co. ?

Nice sounding and looking set. To my knowledge these drums are now made in southern British Columbia.
Good to see George Way's name live on, and labelled on a drum kit. He was an innovator, and his...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I think you're relying very heavily on your 'sincerity meter', which can't be quantified.
How can you tell how sincere a person is? How do you truly know them when all you get is a record or a stage...

Re: My Signets and the gong

Signets now? - they sound nice just wish Ludwig had chosen a wider selection of wraps.
Are there any parts for the gong in the Steely Dan cover band? I think in the intro of 'Josie' you could use...

Re: Yamaha drum kit, need advice.

its an older vintage club custom. those drums will clean up fine. dirty drums are a good 'flaw' to dicker down the price.
i think with those cymbals and stands you are good to start, but would not...

Re: Got hustled, any input apreciated

$500 eh? damn, sorry to hear that. too bad for you. a little research before buying always helps. my experience buying used old drums is if the deal seems too good to be true.....it likely is.

Re: Yamaha drum kit, need advice.

they are awfully dirty, uncared for, but they look structurally sound. where i live that would be about $250 - 300 max.

Re: Help Finding out drum tom size!

Oh...don't want to measure? Ok, try the following:
1. Go to a store ask the worker there for 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 16 inch toms
2. bring them home
3. then compare their sizes to each of the drums of...

Re: 10 ways to sound like Ginger Baker

What a very analytical article. Pretty in-depth, and makes me want to pull out the records and listen for all this.
One thing that always sticks out to me about Baker is his own quote: "I'd be very...

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

I auditioned for a 'roots music' band, supposedly playing stuff like the Allman Bros. They said they had a 'kit' no need to bring one. Gave me no homework, or songs to learn or listen to, "just come...

Re: Is Don Henley relevant here?

Ever try playing it? Not so so simple as they sound, especially the bits at the end.

I love Don Henleys' drumming, it totally fit the band.

Re: A LITTLE MORE NOISE Peart, Carey, Stone, Scannell & Copeland at the Sacred Grove

Nice. Great to see them having so much fun.
Hopefully this won't become more fodder (cr&p) for the Neil Peart thread.

Re: Old Ludwig's ????????

Look on ebay, that kit and a Supraphonic and Ludwig Speed king would sum up to near $1000....if all in good shape The 14 floor tom in that kit is pretty rare.
amazing what is in people's attics.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Been wanting to try a Ludwig Speed King for years, and a local dude sold me 2 of them (and a 3rd for parts) for only $40. They are the Chicago models. Quite like the action, a little noisy though.
