Re: When you're in charge, which songs ...

Kenny G. No particular song, the entire catalog.

Oh and AC/DC, I find their music and lyrics pointless and repetitive.

Great suggestions otherwise.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

I don't gig or play in bands, (did an impromptu light jazz/blues thing last weekend with a bassist). I'm currently working on putting together a fusion project. And moving back to the Boston area. ;)

Re: Left hand thumb keeps sliding of the stick

I practiced the "valving" thing that Jojo Mayer demonstrates, where he's using a fulcrum centered around the thumb and intdex, and finger motion alternates between index and thumb. It was fairly easy...

Re: Most inovative and influential drummers.

See the thread below this one for innovative and influential.

Also I'd mention Papa Jo Jones..truly innovative and his demeanor was so relaxed and effortless. Masterful.

Re: Jim Gordon

I love finding obscure music from decades past...it seems like the Wrecking Crew's best performances were usually the obscure things. I think Hal Blaine mentioned that most of his best work is...

Re: groove vs chops?

If you can't groove, you do not have chops.

Is this true?

Jim Gordon's drum parts in this one are just fantastic, so I uploaded a decent quality sounding mp3. He was obviously playing well in 1973. lol

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

Yeah, but I don't go overboard with it. I was a weird bird left-footed, right-handed growing up. Every day, I isolate the left hand and foot to work on technique for maybe 20 minutes. When I was...

Re: Do you use moeller for back beats?

dre, I think that if you you have trouble with one strike with moeller whip, multiple bounces or accents will be problematic too. At least up to a certain tempo where control and looseness comes into...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Yesterday I picked up a vintage (mid-late 60s?) 22" A Zildjian, and used but decent shape 13" Zildjian New Beats.

The ride sounds pretty good, I needed an alternative to my mostly world/...

Re: Is it still 4 way coordination if I....

I thought you were going for independence initially. My answer is no, because it's possible those unison limbs are playing something different, over the bar or something. But if it's the same thing...

Re: Wow, I just safely and completely unyellowed my WMP

I have a 65 wmp Ludwig that a drum shop wouldn't offer anything. Great shape, all original parts.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I bought a 90's 5x14 Ludwig blackrolite a few weeks ago for $100 USD, nice condition and cleaned up superb. It sounds pretty good, can definitely get a sound similar to a supraphonic, but not quite...

Re: Self taught drummer.. how do I take my drumming to the next level

Agree; if you can afford an instructor, take lessons.

Try playing along to your favorite songs. Work on timing, feel, and getting the parts correct, more than actually playing note-for-note.

Re: Auditioning for a New Orleans jazz/funk/etc. band

At the rehearsals, they're usually set with a metronome through the PA. This is something I wish I knew beforehand ;)....I'm very "lean" when it comes to playing through metronomes with others....

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Yeah, the more limits in place, the more creative you are forced to become. My drum teacher drilled this into my head.

So many drummers I see, work on independence and stick control, and all of...

Re: Wow, I just safely and completely unyellowed my WMP

No I only saw your pictures, but the drums look good if not great. I'm definitely interested, will bump this thread in the near future most likely. ;) I have a mid 50's 13" tom that is missing a...

Re: Wow, I just safely and completely unyellowed my WMP

What exactly will happen if 50's Leedy/Ludwig's or a '65 Ludwig tom are treated with this? I may try it just for fun, since the drums are worth nearly nothing.
