Re: Show us your "Acrylics"

These drums belong to my son. He got his drumming from me and his artist ability from his mom.

Re: New Tama StarClassic Bubinga setup

Nice kit congratulation. I've always been a big fan of Tama bubinga and the SC performers also. I just think they sound real rich, lots of deep tone. Happy drumming.

Re: 12x10 Tom

I have a 10x12 on my old yamaha kit. I can't tell a whole lot of difference between that one and the shallower one on my newer kit. I think they sound about the same with the same heads on them....

Re: 7/8 groove with shifting hihat pattern

Very cool. I need to learn how to play those nearly constant grace notes on the snare like you do. I see a lot of drummers doing that now, and I like it. Nice video.

That is so cool, you must be very proud. Congratulations. Millions of drummers only dream of such a thing.

Re: My Band Frustrations

I think this is your answer. Many many people play in multiple bands. I can't rehearse on any wk. night, and I work every Fri. night. So I'm in a band that is cool with that. 2 of the other members...

Re: Looking at your foot

It seems like as far back as I can remember I've looked at my feet when I'm not able to pull off what I want. I think it helps me focus (mentally) on what I want my feet to do.

Re: Which to choose

I feel exactly the same. I may never use it in a real gig setting, but I still feel compelled to learn it. Today I was getting some power with it. I'm a long way from good at it though.

Re: Which to choose

I also am new to heel toe. For several yr. now I've been working on continuous release, which some people mistakenly call heel toe. I do play it heel heel toe toe as you described. I can get a...

Re: Matt Griener anyone..?

I've got a couple of ABR CD's. Matt's a great drummer. I don't think I'll ever be able to play most of their music.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I've only watched a couple videos of Meytal, and Emmanuelle Caplette. I've got to tell ya, Emmanuelle has it all. Total pro from looks to playing ability. I was in awe of her playing, and her...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I've got a Q3 and I really like it. I've set it up in front of one of the mains at a small gig, and the sound was real good. I use the line in function with a small mixer at home for videos. Ive also...

Re: Dampening!!!!!!

At least it looks like a single ply head. I always chuckle when I hear people bragging about not using any dampening, but they are using heads dampened from the factory. PS3, Sk, pinstripes, EC's...

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

I'm a fan of toms on the kick. I've used them on stands before also. 1 on each side of the kick, and 2 off to the side also. I don't remember having trouble with tom placement. I just prefer having...

Re: 2 ply resonant heads

I've found several people on here said they used them on their Fl. toms to tame them down a bit. My 14" rings for ever, so I tried a super2 Aquarian on the reso. and a performance 2 on top. I like...

Re: The sound I like

It was going onto the studio that caused a guitarist to stop hounding me about taping up my drums. It's been many yr. ago. We went around about it quite a bit. I remember telling him,how bout we rap...

Now there's idea. I've got some old tour customs. As far back as I can remember they were always called tour and tour custom. They are birch and mahogany. Before recording, and tour, they were 5000...

Re: 2014 Yamaha Stage Custom

Congrats. I bet that is, a step up. Not taking anything away from the old Pearls. They were great in the 90's. That's quite a nice kit, I bet I could be real happy with that kit. Happy playing.

Re: Vintage Snare Drum Collectors?

It's ok. I don't think I have the best head on it(Evans EC reverse dot). I put that head on when I was playing country, and tuned it low. I've been using the steel Yammie all the time now. When I gig...

Re: Freddie Gruber: Is It Necessary to Know Drum Rudiments?

I think if I'd learned rudiments as a kid, I'd be a lot better player today. After 40+ yr. I'm just now learning the dbl. and triple stroke rolls. Lol. I didn't have any self discipline though, so it...

Re: leaving the kick beater on the bass head?

Well there you have it. A pro advocating burring the beater. I will say this, Bill is by far more knowledgeable, and experienced than I will ever be. The heel toe technique lends itself to this. It...
