Re: Pain in right shin while bass drumming

Shin splints occur when you work your calf muscle more than its opposing muscles.

Stretch by standing with your toes on a curb and strengthen by applying a force to your instep and pulling your...

Re: Should I Quit Band Due to Constant Critiques By Singer?

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Im in a cover band and we create our set list based on three things.

1) Our 80s rock/pop genre

2) the popularity of the songs via youtube hits

3) our ability to cover them closely.

Re: Good musicianship.....

If working is your primary goal then the business needs to be ahead of the instrument. There are plenty of working and famous acts that aren't primo musicians.

That said, it's generally easier to...

Re: The future of the drumset think tank

Nesting drums would be a huge space saver. You would of course have to engineer the kit with proper sizings

The shells could be split and put back together with a solid clamping mechanism that...

Re: We are the product of our influences

The Charlie Watts thing where he doesn't play all the 1/8 notes with his right hand (skips 3 and 7?) I never knew it was a thing until the internet pointed it out.

Is it lazy of just a style?

Re: Top this for a random gig

I think it would be a grave mistake to take this gig.

But if you do, get paid up front so you don't get stiffed.

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

lol. How about everyone.

Some inexperienced players turn up to compensate for their lack of skills. Some turn up to cover the lack of vocal skills. Others simply may not know how a mix should...

Re: Rhythm Dictionary

What else would it represent?

I've simply never seen it played using a hand to choke the cymbals. But, I don't get out much.

After watching the end of the Jeff Hamilton video, I am apparently...

Re: Rhythm Dictionary

Is your HH pedal broken :)

In the video, the very last two strokes is what I was hearing in my head as partially open and open open. Does that make any sense?

I want to say it's partially open,...

Re: Rhythm Dictionary

Oh yeah. No wonder I keep getting fired :)

In my head, I only heard the third one as open.

Maybe because the first open one is only partially open (in the process of opening) and the second...

Re: Booted out of band, advice needed

The guitar player sounds like a dick. WTF is "not a weekend band" mean. Doesn't he have a job?

Don't sell your gear or quit. I quit in 1981and didn't get back until 2010. I had an all or nothing...

Re: Do You Drum While Not Drumming?

Last week I found my self playing tambourine along with Walk Like An Egyptian in the grocery store, using a box of rice.

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

So....that's a no lol :)

Larry, I'm not certain that Stairway moves you and Steely Dan doesn't has anything to do with a click.

I just took a look at Kid Charlemagne and the intro was dead on...

Re: Would you join a band for popularity?

Well, you said you could have fun playing the gigs so, you must be concerned what other people would think of your choice.

You might become more fond of the genre once you learn to appreciate it....

Re: Does this sound like a lack of professionalism?

Drama is certainly not limited to bands and teenaged girls, but they typically seem to be some of the worst offenders :)
