Re: Balancing Gear Collection with Market Saturation

Maybe I have a different view of it all, but I consider musical instruments as tools to accomplish music and sound that I want to accomplish. I don't collect for the sake of "having," and I have...

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

You can start a poll if you want (as in a whole other thread). :)

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

I know in my area, being a kid from the 1980s in a small town in NC, we kids had two options: we could play sports (basketball, baseball, or football...that's it) or we could play music. I wanted...

Re: Good drum store in Athens, Greece

I just found this in under a min. using Google.

http://tellusdrums.com/

Looks like they are more of a drum maker than a music store; however, they seem to do repairs. Straight from their...

Re: 4-up, 2-down question

I think the only way I'd be comfy with this is if I started with an 8" tom as opposed to a 10" in the pic. But that's just me.

Give it a try! You might like it; you might hate it. However, you...

Re: Just Came From Terrible Audition - I sucked!

Wow, what a weird audition!

Shake it off, and move on.

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

Overall, I think anything polyrhythmic can be interesting, but I can't sit and listen to it for more than a couple of minutes...whether it's West African drumming or Dream Theater. It's just not my...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

It all sounds academic to me. A friend of mine calls it "math rock." I don't particularly care for it. Can I play it myself? Nope. Do I care to? Nope.

Whenever I hear something that has...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

What does this even mean? If you are the new guy, you shouldn't really be "taking charge" of anything IMO.

Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

Buy used. Buy local. Save a bundle.

So many kids try drums, quit, and then sell them at a deep discount just to get them out of the house due to the room they take up.

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

I agree wholeheartedly. I've been in some state-of-the-art churches that had a $100k light rig, and I've been in some that didn't even have any sort of mics or PA system because it simply didn't...

Re: Trick VMT Pub Kick

To the OP:

Maybe. I think I'd rather just play my 20" kick quieter, and possibly turn my DW drum beater to the felt side as opposed to the plastic side. I'm getting so used to playing quieter...

Re: Weezer plays Rosanna..

The harmonies are good, and the drummer keeps a beat.

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

Yup, it does. I'm sort of going through that right now.

I had a band contact me saying they are interested, but never got back in touch with me to come out. It's been a few weeks. Nothing. ...

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

The sanctuary is part of the church building that's the big room with rows of chairs or pews, traditionally with a choir loft, piano, organ, pulpit, etc. There are usually different classrooms and...

Re: That moment...

If my kids got really interested in playing drums, and the price of them doing so was a little scar on one of my Pork Pie USA kits, so be it. Well worth the mark IMO.

Drums are tools. I'd rather...

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

I used to play behind one at church years ago.

I started taking off the panels and put them in front of the guitar amps.

I thought it was funny.

They didn't.

I don't go to that church...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

Believe me when I say that there's no way that I'd travel that far for a rehearsal (unless it was a big-ticket band, but this is a CL ad, so I seriously doubt it is). These days, I don't know if I...

Re: So, where are they built?..

I've heard that most of the drum hardware is pretty much by the same couple of companies.

Heck, I've even heard there are only one or two companies out there who make just about all of the steel...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

Both of the towns mentioned are college towns. My guess is maybe a member of the band is in college in the other town.

Re: Matching Gear, Cool or Dorky?

As long as you like it, who cares...right?

(Coming from a guy who used to own a Super Mario drum set.)

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

There's a folk/rock band that's advertising on Craigslist that looks intriguing. The weird thing is that it says this:

Must be able to rehearse in person in [local town], [another town 4 hours...
