Re: Gretsch USA Custom VS Ludwig Legacy

I would say this thread delivers on the sound. These two are far and above my favorite modern kits I've played. You really can't go wrong with either.

Re: Felt sound control on bass drums . . .

I've got one on the front and back of my 3 ply 24" Ludwig kick. Works quite well for me!

Re: Playing as loud as possible? Yay or nay?

This is an interesting one for me. In most circles, I'm considered a pretty loud/powerful drummer. In my main band, I'm playing my hardest/loudest probably 90% of the time. We're also a loud...

Re: I'm really feeling the Ludwig love lately...

This thread speaks to me. For me, Ludwig are the only drums I want to own.

Maybe that seems a little limiting, but it took me 9 or 10 years of playing every drum under the sun before I settled on...

Re: Touring Fees

In the indie world, from bands that I know, it seems like $300 a show is on the higher end. These bands have day jobs that they go back to at the end of tour though. Being in a punk or a metal band...

Re: Question on C&C drums

You'll be fine. Many hardcore/metalcore/alternative use C&C. Great company, great sounding, well made drums. Look at their artist roster, you may find lots and lots of drummers you know.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

I'd really like a Gibraltar 8606 flat base snare stand if anyone is getting rid of one. Thanks!

Re: Opinions on Pearl Maple Free Floating Snare.

I have one of the maple piccolo free floaters. I actually am trying to sell it, but for a while it was actually my main snare.

I'll echo all the comments in here though. Bright, cutting pop. ...

Re: I love my Supra buuuuuutttttt...

I have wanted a Coliseum for a long while. Finally sold some gear that could pay for one, and found a real clean looking monster on ebay. Super excited about this one.

Any love for the slotted...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

In addition to the snares and pedal mentioned above, I have a modern Ludwig rail mount for sale. 9.5 mm arm. I bought it and never used it. Great piece of hardware, just didn't work for me. $50.

Re: is anyone rocking a 10x14 rack tom instead of 9x13?

With my main band, I use a 14x10 up front. I love it. When I'm just playing by myself I tend to use a 13x9.

Re: Help for playing Doom Metal

I play in a band that identifies most with this scene, although we really play a huge mix of styles.

I'm going to echo some earlier advice. I play a 70's 3 ply Ludwig kit, 24, 14, 16, 18. I...

Re: Anyone play Hard Rock or Metal with a large unported kick?

I play in a high volume stoner metal/rock band, and I have a 24" 3 ply kick with no port. They'll find a way to mic the drum in my experience. Sure, having a hole in the head may make it a little...

Re: I'm going to Chicago--looking for stuff to do

I came in to say Vic's drum shop. I visited Chicago recently and that place blew my mind. Incredible selection! Also, if you like improv theatre, check out the IO or Second City. Hilarious!

Re: How do you keep track of where you are in a song?

I do this a few different ways actually. In my main band, we've played these songs so many times I generally know them backwards and forwards. But sometimes I'll still listen to the guitars and...

Re: slow/heavy/doomy drummers - recommendations please

Dude, Lo Pan is awesome. Those guys are some of our closest friends in the scene. We play with them whenever we can, and they bring it down every single time. Love those dudes! It's awesome to...

Re: slow/heavy/doomy drummers - recommendations please

For creative drumming, check out Kylesa and Baroness, and sometimes Torche. All bands that mix up styles, but all have their slow and heavy moments.

I play a mix of stoner metal and doom rock...

Re: Trad. grip players check in ....

Part time traditional gripper here.

When I was in high school I was asked to join the jazz band so I thought I'd start messing around with traditional for fun. Now I'was never that good at all...

Re: Ludwig signs QUESTLOVE!

From what I understand, most endorsement deals don't involve money, except in the case of signature products. Most drummers tend to shift companies based on (hopefully) the sound that they enjoy,...

You're not alone, I notice any small gear change from my bandmates. But I'm also a gear head regarding drums, bass, and a guitar gear. However, and maybe it's just my band, but they also notice...

Re: Ludwig signs QUESTLOVE!

Very excited to hear this, very happy to see my favorite drums get a daily spot on late night TV.

I can't believe ANYONE would say that ?uestlove is a bad drummer.... his pocket is phenomenal....

Re: Rig for my (another) new band

Amaaazing. Everything about that is amazing.

And flat base stands are where it's at. I've got my 24" Avedis medium on a Gibraltar flat stand, and it wobbles a bit, but it's super sturdy.

Re: Big toms - How much more annoying is 16" and 18" floor toms compared to 14" and 16"?

If you're going 24" with two floors, did you consider a 13" rack tom? If you're set on 12", that's totally cool, I just wondered if you considered the 13" at all.

I'll add to the discussion, that...

Re: Custom drum decision? SJC vs. C&C????

C&C get my personal vote every time. I've always dug the vintage drum thing more than others, and C&C makes their own vintage inspired shell now. I haven't played either set, but I have HEARD both....
