Re: Why Do Most Compact Kits Have 14" Snares?

My Yamaha Sensitive snare (13" x 6.5") is fantastic.

Re: Mid range kits

That's because prices shown to Kamak are excluding GST whereas you're in the EU and get to see prices including GST. Which is probably 18-20% more.

I used to play a Recording Custom, but recently...

Re: Worship drummer - variety?

Back in the early 80s I listened to a lot of Koinonia: instrumental Christian jazz rock, starring a.o. Abe Laboriel and Alex Acuna. Imagine top notch players in small back street theatres, raving...

Re: Yamaha 18" Bass Drum Lugs

Nope, there is only one 18" Stage Custom bass drum and it has 6 lugs. I've got one, and complained to the online store after I received it because the online picture showed 8 lugs. Just to make a...

Re: Left-footed/Right Handed Hell

I'm right-handed and left-footed, and sometimes have problems with doubles on the kick. But that could also be caused by lack of practice..

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

Maybe Yamaha intended to use the naming convention based on the verb “to customize”, which would mean “to modify to suit a particular application”. So a kit costmized for recording would be the...

Re: Are Ludwigs "just too darn loud?"

It may just be in my mind, but I feel that using my 5A maple sticks are quieter than my 5A hickory sticks.

Re: Old Pearl snare

Thanks, saw that catalog. Strainer is indeed as per the 9-ply version, but mine only has 6 lugs. Either way I now know roughly when it must have been made.

Re: Old Pearl snare

Thanks for the info guys, I figured early 70s but hadn’t seen that badge before. It’s a simple little drum but has a nice jazzy sound.

Old Pearl snare

Came across this Pearl snare today; 6-lug, 6-ply, 14”. Sounds good. Anyone here know what era this is?

Cheers

Re: Thoughts on older Gretsch Maple Renowns vs. new Yamaha stage Customs??

I may be biased as a YSC owner, but what's worth mentioning here is the Stage Customs are more recent, and are still available new. So if you want to you can get a 14 x 13 floor tom in the amber...

Re: What's the worst drumming mistake you've heard on a professional recording?

But Dennis Chambers repeats the exact rim hit on the live album.. So two negatives make a positive?

Re: Stage Customs - Larger sizes or the smaller sizes?

I have the SC in a 20/10/12/14 configuration but supplemented it with a 16.

Re: I prefer cheaper woods over "good" woods, am I losing it?

Keep an eye out for a Yamaha 7000-series kit, they sound fantastic and I believe they were mahogany (or at least partially).

[QUOTE=MikeM;1502328]Wearing out a drumkey? Sounds like a technique issue to me. I imagine a qualified drumkey teacher could straighten you out on that ;)[/

Re: Manu Katche model snare drum?

Sorry about the misinformation on the limited run, I misunderstood. Still I've never seen a SD-415MK with a serial number with more than 3 digits so there can't be many..
