Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

Did anyone else notice how wildly the tempo varied from the beginning of the referenced track, to the end? Certainly became less sludgy as the song went along.

Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

Funny, I had just read this craigslist ad too. The ad seemed fairly non-committal, jmo.

Re: 8 years of professional teaching - time to give it away

Completely agree....that would suck the fun right out of any drum kit time as a student.

When I was very young taking lessons, I never had a drum kit, so the most fun and exciting part was...

Re: 8 years of professional teaching - time to give it away

I'm not going to get into all of that, but an instructor I was taking lessons with ALWAYS accommodated lefties. One of his students before me was a lefty and we had to switch around the student kit...

Re: Jojo Mayer

Yeah, a few years back when I watched those mid 90's clips on youtube I said the same thing. You can see the obvious, Tony, Vinnie, Weckl influences. Also would add Dennis Chambers.

What's...

Re: 8 years of professional teaching - time to give it away

Well I am one of those "virtually none", because as a child, it was impossible for me to play a right-handed guitar, even as a righty. I held it backwards. :)

Re: Learning the Single Stroke Roll

My suggestion right now, is to watch your hands and pay close attention to all of your fingers, your hand position, the rebound and catch every detail of what you are doing. Using a mirror is a...

Re: The order of things....

Pretty much every serious drummer needs a serious snare drum. The center of most drummers kits, that's where I would begin anyway.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

Without knowing better, I would have thought the video was satirical humor aimed at metalheads.

Re: This is a great interview with Jeff Pocaro

Great interview. He was healthier here than later videos, especially that instructional DVD. He was reaching a breaking point there. Also interesting how he talked about Jim Gordon for two minutes,...

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

It wasn't just Eddies tapping technique, a host of guitarists cloned his setup to allow for that technique, as well as his Eddies sound.

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

How about Vito Bratta and White Lion's late 80's success, who was basically a clone of Eddie VH and their overall sound?

Re: Neil Peart

I actually enjoy the critical discussion of Neil, Travis, Lars, and any other worshiped person. Once you achieve that mainstream name and success, for better or worse, you should endure the...

Re: Jim Chapin on open rolls(Double stroke roll)

I do practice these techniques, maybe 15-20 minutes a day on double strokes. Endurance and form. Exactly how Jim Chapin was describing it.

Re: Technical playing and grooving

This is a pet peeve of mine...usually it has a dramatic effect on the music, dramatic like ruining it! :D

There's nothing worse than having a groove going for a period of time, and suddenly the...

Re: 10,000 hours of practice

They could be equivalent I suppose, but let's at least get the title correct is my point. I'd say master sounds more authoritative, jmo...but just a wild guess and I don't feel like googling it. :)

Re: The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

What's the ruling on electronic drums? Does that cheapen it a bit? ;) P.S. I'm really enjoying the track.

Re: Can't seem to play fast

This is a good idea. The whole approach should always be loose and free, relaxed.

I suggest practicing the free stroke extremely slowly and deliberately, on each hand. Independently. It's...
