Re: Recurring dream - drum related

I often have dreams that my band from the 90's has a reunion gig.

The circumstances are often different in dream to dream. Sometimes I am being bribed heavily to even consider being in the same...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Ya know.....life happens.

Things come up, barriers get put in our way, our priorities change.

But despite whatever else may be going on in life, the drums are still there.

And sometimes,...

Re: What do you think of my new website!

Nicely done!

What software did you use to build it? It seems pretty fancy for a DYI site.

My only suggestion is you break up the biography page in to a few paragraphs so it's not such a large...

Re: Best Maple Drumkit around $1000

Not to mention, outside of the Signet, with any new maple kit that is in this price range, they're all getting their shells from the same place. And there is a good chance, most of the options you're...

Re: bass drum depth

^ This.

And visually, it looked nicer on MTV.

Alex Van Halen, Greg Bissonette (when he was with David Lee Roth) and some others started having two bass drum shells attached to each other to...

Re: Considering a new kit

Birch Customs have been discontinued for a while.

Starclassic performers are pretty nice. Might be up your alley.

The Pearl Session Studio Classic would essentially be the same shell as your...

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

^ This.

Even for the cymbal stands, I take off the boom arm and fold up the tripod, and stick them in the case at their full height.

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

It sounds like air lock.

If the top hat hits the bottom exactly perfectly all the way around at the same time, the air inside the two cymbals creates a vacuum, and holds the cymbals together. It...

Re: Considering a new kit

I didn't forget, I was just asking.

My Premier and my DW are identical in specs, but they are different colors! lol

Re: Why is it you never see threads saying....

I've never bought a set of cymbals.

I buy cymbals that sound good to me individually, and that complement (or contrast) the ones I already have.

Re: I got some Fiberskyn heads for free.. the heck do I use them for?

Fiberskins are supposed to be close to the old calf skin sound.

People who want that real old vintage drum sound of the 30's and 40's tend to love them. People who don't want that sound tend to...

Re: Breaking into the NEXT LEVEL! Any practical wisdom for an eager young player?

Be somewhere where their are lots of musicians.

Network. Go to where musicians play, hang out, meet people. Get to know people, and more importantly, let people get to know you.

Re: Auralex Hovermat?

No, but my riser is built on platfoam

Which works great. My studio is on a 2nd floor, and the platfoam does a great job of preventing the whole...

Re: Famous Metal drummers?

I find the trigger hate amusing.

So many rock/metal drummers think triggers are wrong, but then they muffle, eq and compress their bass drum sound until it sounds like a triggered sample anyway.

Re: Considering a new kit

You say you want a new kit, but then you say what your looking for is something near identical to the one you have.

So, it begs the question, why even bother getting a new kit?

Re: Peavey drum set

Not much.

They weren't even made by Peavey.

They were low end made-in-asia kits imported with the Peavey name stuck on them.
On a par with the Fender kits they sell as Costco, or the Sound...

Re: Trimmed down kits

Single drum? phfftt..... You can still get trapped into playing the same ole rudiments on a one piece kit.

It's clear the most creative drummers play on a zero piece kit. In fact, they are so...

Re: Trimmed down kits

In the mid 90's, my then band pressured me into changing into a 4 pc, because it's what everyone was doing.

I didn't want to be like everyone else, so I played a a 5pc.

Re: Help on identifying these vintage drums?

I think it was a true Slingerland, it was say so on the badges.

Which makes me think it's a generic made-in-Japan kit that had a genuine Slingerland tom mount added to it.

Re: Trimmed down kits

Yes, but this started in 1991/1992.

When Nirvana got big, and Dave Grohl had the 4 pc. you saw tons and tons of drummers scale down their kits to a 4 pc.

And that was over 20 years ago.

As long as the football game is on.

Re: RANT: Dissapointed in Sonor

Sorry, that sucks.

Sonar customer service in the US has often been not all that great.
