Re: Tama Power Metal snares...opinions?

I've got one of the hammered bronze 5.5" snares and I love that thing! I put some Grover snares on it along with Aquarian Vintage II heads and it sounds great. It does have a drier sound than brass....

Re: AK Snare Drums?

Those look like the rims that Drum Foundry is selling. I've been eyeing those for a while. That is one beautiful drum! How does he join the brass and copper parts of the shell? I need to start...

Re: PSA - Lubricate your P85.

Lithium grease is great. You can use it on your garage door after you finish with your strainer. I've also found that "Liquid Bearings" does a great job.

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I've got a Ludwig 6 1/2 x 14" Maple snare with individual snare strands that I'll probably never part with. I can mix metal snare strands with synthetic gut and get some pretty amazing results. I'll...

Re: Mapex Saturn vs Premier Genista

Actually the shells on the older Saturns are a walnut/maple hybrid. I've had a Saturn kit for years and I absolutely love them. Birch is another great tone wood. I have a Birch kit as well and...

Re: How long does your snare cord last?

I've got a couple of Ludwigs that have the same cord that they had 30 years ago. I don't leave the snares engaged when not in use but I store them in hard cases so I don't have to worry about the...

Re: Mapex black panther vs Taye specialty snares

Hey,

I've got the Taye hybrid and I love that thing! On the other hand I've heard the Mapex in a live acoustic setting and it sounded great as well. To my ears the Taye has a slightly more focused...

Re: The side snare

Try listening to Ben Harper's "Will To Live". His drummer uses two contrasting snares to great effect on that tune. One sounds like a piccolo and the other has that muffled fatback sound. The...

Re: Contemplating a brass-for-brass snare trade

You'll grow to love the Sledge. It's heavy but it had a really wide pallette. I've both the 5" Pearl and a Sledge and I've found the Sledge to be more versatile. They're both great snares though....

Re: "Restoring" my old snare.

The Hendrix washers are great! I'm using them on all of my snares. They really do smooth out the whole tuning process and they help to isolate the tuning rod from the rim. Well worth the money.

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

I wonder how that thing would sound with wood hoops or the hoops that Drum Foundry has that are single flanged and don't need the hoop claws. Hard to say....

Re: Snare drum throw-off problems..??

I think that your problem is with your snares. I bought a Sledgehammer when they first came out and I've never had any problems with getting any sound that I want out of it. The only problem that...

Re: My Gurus through my PA.

Andy,

Those drums sound amazing!!! I need to look at my 401k now. They remind of the old 396 cubic inch engines like they used to put in Chevy SuperSports. Mean and musical at the same time. Love...

Re: Joey Jordison snare?

Don't worry so much about the hardware. You have to grow into the instrument. An inexperienced drummer won't sound any better on a Supra than they will on a Maxwin. Do as much woodshedding as you can....

I'm not getting this low resale value thing. I've been playing a set of Saturns for a while now and I always get compliments. I've also had more than a few offers for them. They don't have the hype...

Granted, I'm going senile but I'm not quite getting this. Does he lay an older head on top of the batter head?

Re: Snare Advice!

Or you can buy the Acrolite. It's the same shell and strainer as the Supra but it's about 1/3 the price. I've been using Acros for years now and it really is the best snare at the price that they...
