Re: Mid range kits

I understand what you're saying. I've owned all the major brands and for me, the vibe must be the high point. I keep returning to Ludwig and Gretsch because of that vibe. I've had perfect high-end...

Re: Mid range kits

SC’s are a great investment. Solid, reputable manufacturing, can’t really go wrong. A lot of people I know got those, thinking they’d upgrade to Recording Customs when the time came, but many...

Re: Mid range kits

I was a tourist in Italy last year and spent time in Venice, Florence, and Rome. Did all the tourist-y things you're supposed to since it was my first time. But I didn't see any music stores. Are...

Re: Sorry Neil......Ringo and Paul has much more "feel" than you

I can understand this too. Some bands are known for certain things - The Eagles sticking to the recorded song is not a new idea. From what I've learned over the years, Count Basie and Duke...

Re: DW owners-do you tune to the "stamped" note?

I have to agree. When I heard the Vapor Trails album, the drums sounded explosive, then all albums after that where he used different DW kits the drums did sound a little different to me.

Re: DW owners-do you tune to the "stamped" note?

On the four Collector's kits I've had, I couldn't tune to the stamped note. Maybe I'm incompetent. The drum always sang better when I just experimented and found where it actually resonated its...

Re: Has anyone offered a drumset that you assemble?

The Signets were cool. I had one, the 12/14/20 kit in that weird Alpine blue. It was tough getting past that lug design, though. But the kit sounded really good for the price. And the fact that...

Re: Ludwig Supraphonic - 5" or 6.5" depth?

I played 5” for a long time, but the 6.5” sounds better to me. But if I could, I’d go 8”!

Re: Hand goes numb

Well, right now I think what we’re doing is just maintaining a certain level of numbness. As I get older, thinks just get tweaked more often, so weekly I go in to get straightened out so the...

Re: Hand goes numb

I have this issue now where both hands can start to go numb while playing (I'm 52 now).

For the last few years my chiropractor and I have been working on stuff. He has a theory that I'm not...

Re: A Nice sounding British Drum Company kit

I saw these at NAMM this year and got to check them out - I thought they were quite solid drums.

Problem was, there are ALOT of solid drums out there on the market, let alone the NAMM show floor. ...

Re: The future of the drumset think tank

Without making collapsing shells, remember when Slingerland those all single headed kits? You could nest them inside the bass drum and carry that like a bag of groceries.

Re: The future of the drumset think tank

Why is this a problem? What if you played piano or organ? Those guys don’t complain about moving those about, do they?

Re: Very cool looping performance

My organic nature, I guess. After my stint with MIDI in the 80s, I've really gone the way of having musicians all the time. But I may come around sooner or later. It was cool seeing how the...

Very cool looping performance

The older I get, I do try to stay hip to what's happening today. I've seen bassist Victor Wooten use a looper once and was very impressed. Here's drummer Jordan West doing some performing with a...

Re: Remember - I'm a NOOB

You are correct. If you can’t play, having every drum size on the planet won’t help you.

Re: Is Yamaha Stage Custom an upgrade over Sonor Safari?

I think if you’re gonna get money for trading, and you want to do it, then it’s a win-win. It’s true slightly bigger would better, but too me, I think 18” bass drums are too small for anything. But...

Re: Installing a tom mount on a virgin bass drum..

I've done things like this and sometimes I've regretted it, so be sure you really want to do it. It's like getting a tattoo - you'll have to live with it if you grow not to like it. But, if you're...

Re: Your full name on your bass drum head

When I do the “name on a bass drum” thing, I usually put “Andy Crosby” or “Larry Hinckel” on mine.

Re: What does “playing time” mean in jazz?

As always, the answer is, "it depends".

And this is where we find out how much jazz you've been listening to. Some jazz sounds great with just a ride cymbal playing straight quarter notes,...

Re: My Ludwig Classic Maple Set Has Arrived

Congratulations! It's great that you got a matching snare with yours! Apparently, when I ordered my black oyster super classic in the same sizes, a free snare was not an option for me! I hate...
