Re: Dented Shell

I've had the same metal Slingerland snare and that's what they did back at good ole' Slingerland. They crimped like that. The crimp is exactly centered to those 2 set screw holes one sees. Cringe if...

Re: Dented Shell

That is the snare bed, for where the snares lay, it is intentionally made that way.
You see a dip there on all snares.
Carry on, should be a nice snare. Sound King?

Re: Musician vs Artist

Haha, Hopefully you're joking. Try hurling a ball at 95 mph for 50 pitches or more, or hitting said ball with a 4 inch wide wood stick for over 400 feet.
Perhaps you mean billiards are a game.

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Hey, me too, am working on the same thing, but in reality, who is going to have to ever sustain one-handed 16ths for an entire 15-20 minutes.
I'd try to get them for sustained 5 mins, then move up...

Re: Rogers Drum Talk video discussing some of the Swivomatic era gear

Nice easy going video. Tony all this time I thought you were the huge Gretsch guy, but you seem to be going DEEP in the Rogers pool. What brought the change?
Long before getting into or following...

Re: Ever bought a recording just because it featured the kind of drums you have?

Never. But before doing this again, you should consider that lots of recordings are done with drums that are in-house of the studio, or chosen for that record, that differ in brands from those the...

Re: Are We Just Being Silly?

I don;t see all the fuss either. This activity is surely better than ....hitting people with sticks... or hitting little white balls with clubs. People meditate, pray, whittle sticks, or read books...

Re: Cement residue on a stripped drum

If it was surface cement, I've used paint stripper, doesn't take off any wood. But yours has seeped into wood, and you can't go much deeper with a solvent, thus nothing but sanding left. If you cant...

Re: Mother (nature) knows best :)

Very nice.
Shellac differs from a urethane no?
Why do you use shellac? And 10 coats, how long to dry between coats?

Re: Bop Kit Shootout - Sonor SQ2, Canopus RFM, Ludwig Classic Maple

Hmmm, I only listened to the drum playing, none of the talk, or 'drum geek' build-related features.
My ears picked Canopus, then Sonor.
Of course they are all nice but the Ludwigs came in the...

Re: The needless debate over drum construction and the misguided search for undo drum resonance

Which is absolutely fantastic...for you.
For somebody else, this search/preference/knowledge for woods, edges etc. does matter, or maybe is simply interesting for them. In that way it doesn't...

Re: The needless debate over drum construction and the misguided search for undo drum resonance

"Do the things we drummers endlessly quibble over really make a difference?"

Strange, I've been reading DW for years, these endless discussions on wood, bearing edges, ....but I'd never say its...

Re: Can you tell a big difference?

For your average bloke playing out with a band the SC fits the bill.

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Actually Rogers drums (an American drum company) had a 'modern tom holder' by the late 60's. It is later very much copied by Yamaha and Tama. Look up any late 60's early 70's Rogers holiday kit, and...
