Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

With decent heads almost any kit can gig well on the local scene, and as the previous poster said, sometimes you'd rather gig your cheap kit than your really nice kit. I know there's a few places...

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

First rehearsals are tonight. I'm taking a simple kit - snare, kick, rack, floor, hats, Omni. I may not need much more for the show, in fact - although it appears the MD wants to assign some of the...

Re: Ever have a drumming dream?

Very often I have a dream about trying to set up the drums but there's stuff missing or broken, and I'm apparently late and holding up the show.

Other times I dream that I find myself in a barn...

Re: The 16x14 floor tom

I own a 14x16 and a 16x16. The 14" drum is quicker to respond at the expense of a little bit of extra body. The 16" drum feels tubbier but fuller. And this makes sense to me. That two extra inches of...

Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

Zildjian and Ahead still sell them. I tried them for a short time and I wore a hole in them nearly immediately. I loved the positive grip and cushion while they lasted.

Arbiter Drums. I never ever understood how tensioning around the diameter of the head worked.

Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

I think it's got to be hard for drum/percussion/hardware manufacturers to figure out what will be a great idea that lasts for decades (remote cable hat) and what won't (the Gibraltar ultra-adjust...

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

The covers band I play in gets asked to do this gig a few times a year. We just take it in stride and challenge ourselves to deliver exactly what's asked for. This past year I've played at an RV...

Re: Open Handed Drumming

You know, Todd brings up a good point. Plenty of folks make a solid living, earn awards and accolades, and make dozens of records without going open-handed or being able to switch between the two.

Re: Who's got the best brand name...

If I were to start a drum company, I'd call it Schrodinger. My marketing slogan would be, "These might be the best drums in the world. They might not be. You'll never know until you play them."

Re: Open Handed Drumming

The simplest explanation is that most right-hand-dominant players are also right-foot-dominant, and the bass drum has always gone to the dominant foot. Nowadays with cable hi-hats and slave pedals...

Re: Did recording yourself make you a better player, and how?

It's worth noting that in today's music scene, the recorded music we hear is usually one of three things: (1) someone with hideously perfect timing and execution who's been recording for decades in...
