Re: DW Snare Drums?

Thanks for the info! I suspected it may have been the head itself, since as I said, I don't think this happened before the stock head broke. Can't hurt to switch it out to a remo or acquarian and see...

Re: DW Snare Drums?

Similar with me. The stock head broke (don't know how, I was at a gig and setting up and it was broken). I replaced the bottom head with an evans reso, don't recall which type. Same as you...went...

I have a lower priced DW Performance series snare drum. I like the mag throw off. It's the kind you see here: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums-percussion/dw-performance-series-snare-drum

Re: Doooooo! Audience loves it!

Thats hilarious! I should do that. Also, I've thought about an old fashioned telephone ring for the line "when the phone rings" in "Miss You" by the Stones.

Or maybe an explosion for the "BANG...

Re: Did recording yourself make you a better player, and how?

There was this 16th note snare drum fill over one bar that I was doing in a particular song that sounded bad to me. I changed it and did the same fill, but started quiet and did a crescendo and...

Re: Extreme Volume

All true. I can only make so much happen...it's been near impossible, but will try again. I do know this, no matter what, I need to wear hearing protection for the rest of my drumming life, and I...

Re: Did recording yourself make you a better player, and how?

Yes, much better.

1. Certain tempos were too fast. I corrected this, and the band is very happy about it.

2.Certain things I was doing while playing sounded good on the recording.

3....

Doooooo! Audience loves it!

So I have a Roland TM module so I can trigger some claps, congas, timbales, and special affects. One of the effects is a "doooooo" syndrum type sound that you hear on No Doubt's "Hella Good." I found...

Re: Kenny Jones Ripping it Up With The Small Faces

I remember seeing the "eminence front" video a loooong time ago as a kid watching MTV. I remember seeing Jones in the video and this huge drumkit and watching him play a very simple beat on this huge...

Making a drumming video with electronic drums

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience making videos of yourselves playing the drums? Particularly where you have the main video of yourself, and then also another simultaneous video that shows your...

Re: Default Flams/triplets/quads - left hand first?

Ha! I must admit, the thought is very tempting and this crossed my mind! :)

But I'll try working on leading with my left hand, plus I don't want to carry another floor tom.

Re: Flams/triplets/quads - left hand first?

Do you ever cross your arms or just always go floor Tom / rack Tom / bass drum (or something similar)?

Hey brentcn, thanks for a great reply and the exercises! Sorry but can you clarify what you mean about playing the left foot on the downbeat? Do you mean playing the hi-hat with the left foot on...

Default Flams/triplets/quads - left hand first?

Hey all,

I'm used to "right hand first" when it comes to a flam.

Same with triplets between the floor tom, rack tom and bass drum. "A Bonham triplet?"

Or, with a quad between the floor...

Extreme Volume

Been having an issue with the bass in our band being too loud. I love a loud (to a point) bass, but this guy is the loudest I've played with. No one else has an issue with it. He sets up to my left,...

Re: Drummer can't keep time - earbud blutooth to iphone metronome ?

Re: Weights inside new Yamaha bass drum. Can someone explain how this works?

Tell me about it. I don't want something that looks like a piece of furniture, I want some nice sparkles and wraps. But that's just me.

non-specific criticism

You’ve played a song with the band exactly the same way you’ve played it a hundred times. The singer tells you the “groove is a little questionable.” I listen to the recording and can find nothing...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

In our band I like these:

Sara Smile (hall and Oates)
Maryjane’s Last Dance (petty)
Shakey Ground (mcclinton)
I love rock and roll

Re: The magic of a simple kit

I've tried the four piece kit at different times, and I've NEVER been happy with it. I've always been most comfortable with a 5 piece kit (two up, one down). Also, having the extra tom, to me, adds...

Re: struggling to get through a song

Not to nitpick, but during the chorus, I do believe the bass drum is syncopated after each "oom pa"...so it's "oom pa" followed by an 8th note rest for the kick, before the next "oom"...so to speak....
