Re: Drum fads: Past, present...and future?

The no wingnuts on the stands thing is really big right now. I have watched more than one guy looking for his bottom felt/sleeves, on the side of the stage. It doesn't seem to work for everybody.

Re: 1 up, 2 down - opinion on FT sizes

I love my 14/16/18 but the 16/18 is always the trickiest interval for me. I always get the 14/16 interval on the first try. Same tension ,same amount of turns and perfect. The 16 and 18 are always...

I feel better now.

You've all read me complaining about changing my tuning to a more novice sound guy friendly setting. I am not a fan of JAW. Yesterday,we played a benefit for a friend. A local pro volunteered his...

Re: Why doesn't anyone make quieter drums?

I have been fighting a wall of Marshalls/ Boogies since I was a kid. I couldn't play a quiet restaurant gig with a gun to my head. :)

Re: Annoying store experience.

About 15 years ago,I was on my way home from work and stopped in a little Mom and Pop music store. On a top shelf,I spotted a natural maple Ludwig Coliseum snare. I asked if I could see it. I was...

Re: LM402 Lust

I sold both my modern 402s because of the placement of the snare butt. I got tired of having to order low collar snare resos. I had my eye on a reasonably priced 70s 402 but someone beat me to it....

Re: What kit do you use?

Ludwig Red Sparkle CM 14/16/18/26
The snare changes pretty often. Usually, a Coliseum but I have a feeling my new 7x14 Tama Starclassic Brass will be my new workhorse.

I also have a...

Re: I can't believe I did this...

I've been dialing it in. I experimented with hoops and heads. I tried an S-Hoop and a triple flange but ended up sticking with the stock die cast. I tried a few heads but stuck with my Coated CS...

Re: Lazy Guitarists...

I can't believe your vocalist hasn't put an end to that tuning issue. Nothing like singing a tune in a different tuning everyday.

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

You would hate my pedals. lol They are always set at maximum tension.

Death Metal kids with 2 crashes and 5 chinas.

Entire set ups made out of dark,dry,un-lathed models. Basically ,half the...

Re: I can't believe I did this...

Thanks!

It came stock with a Coated G1 and Hazy 300. Tuned up super easy. Sounded good with no muffling. The reso had a pinhole. So, Sam Ash gave a new Hazy Ambassador to replace it. While I was...

Re: I must be an anachronism

I've had standard sizes, power toms, and what DW calls "fast" toms, which seem to be the new "standard" sizes. I think, as far as rack toms go, the "Fast" sizes were my favs. One inch longer than...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I will admit that all my bad nylon tip experiences were decades ago. The tips wouldn't make it through a single night. I hadn't bought a pair since the 80s,until a few months ago. The local drum...

Re: Ludwig floor tom leg placement?

Re: Tricks for faster set up

My rack is currently on a snare stand. I am thinking about going back to a rims mount from a cymbal stand. one less thing to bother with.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

Most of the powerful rock/metal drummers that I know sit low. The extremely fast death metal guys sit higher.

Re: I can't believe I did this...

It seems thicker than another Starclassic Brass that I have played. I just realized that it looks almost identical to the John Tempesta Signature model but without the Black Nickel....
