Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I have owned "high end" kits (DW Collectors, Yamaha Recording Custom, Pearl Reference Pure) and I have owned "low end" kits (PDP Concept Maple, Concept Birch, Tama Rockstar, etc...). In the end, I...

Re: Inde vs C&C

They are totally different kits and they will not sound alike. The player date II is designed to have a fatter, wetter sound with a shortened sustain. The Inde's by comparison are thin shelled,...

Re: Stain Matching - Mapex Transparent Midnight Black

Does the Mapex tom have any underlying color tones other than the black? My Saturn kit in Transparent black has hues of green under the black which is achieved by having a "tealish-blue" stain...

Re: Recording custom question

The early RC's (I think the first couple years of production) did have painted/stained bearing edges. The edges were also a different profile (I think they were full roundovers/baseball bat style)...

Re: TAMA Starclassic "Back to the Basics" line?

Starclassics started in 1994. Take a look through Tama's catalogue archive and see if you can find the kit in those.

Re: Premier tom mount and post

Probably 1" downtube with a 9.5mm rod. It looks a bit smaller than the 10.5mm size and it's definitely not a 12.7mm. Why don't you ask the store that is selling it?

Re: Calling All Mapex Saturn Experts

What do the interiors of the bass drum and floor tom look like?

Do they look like this:

Re: Calling All Mapex Saturn Experts

The bass and floor tom are definitely early-mid 90's. The rack tom is 2014 and up. If the bass drum or the floor tom have walnut on the interior (like the rack tom), than it is newer than any of...

Re: Mixing wood types in one drum kit

6 plies of Mahogany on the inside and 2 plies of Maple on the outside.

Re: What about a “cosmetic” versus “functional” forum?

If we can't get the Admins to add a "Studio and Recording" sub-forum to the site, there's no way in hell you will get your request. Besides, if people want to look at pretty pictures and talk about...

Re: Drumhead Magazine Special Edition

For being "The Number 1 Drum Magazine in Circulation" I've never heard of it either.

I must be out of the loop too.

Re: Quiet Setup Review: RTOM Black Hole/Zildjian L80

I don't have the RTOMs, just Remo silent strokes, so I can't speak to those, but I really like the L80's for what they are. Yeah, the 16" seems to be the weakest of the bunch, but the 18" is great. ...

Re: Mixing wood types in one drum kit

I have the same kit and I notice the 10" tom (Birch/Maple) really sings crisply and clearly. The 12" tom (all Maple) is just kind of average when compared to that 10". I have always found Maple to...

Re: For the Drum Builders

Yes. People find it hard to believe that balsa is actually a hardwood, but it is.

I would say, based on your playing style, this setup is completely wrong for you.

Re: Gretsch badge question

My Gretsch Catalina kit had the word Gretsch on it 40+ times from the factory. I decided to debadge the kit and it looked much cleaner:

Re: Please help - is this bearing edge normal? (Picture attached)

Lots of drums don't have perfectly flat bearing edges, even the top of the line stuff has problems every now and then, so it's not really a surprise to me to see an edge like this. It's a simple fix...

Re: What do you think ? Starclassic bb

That kit could probably have been purchased new for a bit less than $1700. Call it $1800 just to be safe. So, $400 off of new pricing for a kit that they describe as basically new. If you really...

Re: New Kit or Expand Existing Kit: Gretsch

Re: New bass drum hoop finishing

I wouldn't be afraid to use poly on a kit that saw use in the heat, the cold, or in a temperature controlled environment. The expansion and contraction of a ply laid up shell is very little. Notice...
