Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

If someone is clearly a newb to the drum-market, you recommend boutique-stuff? Really? It's just as intelligent as suggesting to someone who never had a car and who has a very small income to buy an...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

Proof?

In Europe, the most sold version of the SC is WITH hardware according to several big instrumental shops. Go figure.

Correct. And if you import, you pay tax plus customs plus huge...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

ÄThe difference between the Gretsch and the Tama is - only with regard to the sound - not that much maple vs. birch but 45 vs 30 degree bearing edges. Gretsch has, because of that, a more mellow (imo...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

Hmmmm.. the Stage Custom can be bought as a shellpck AND with a hardware-pack. Now what? Is the SC junk or quality? 😁

Re: New Tama Club Jam Lite Gigging Kit

Re: New Tama Club Jam Lite Gigging Kit

Ummmm... that one has been available since early december. It is not a "new" kit/d on the block. And it ships in only one colour. The other club-kits are limited edition Silverstars that have also...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

Hm.... name a better rock/pop-drummer that was available during the time from 1960 to 1963. I am interested in your answer.

Ringo could play, according to fellow musicians and sound-engineers,...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

Nonsense. Ten lug snaredrums do not automatically offer a wider tuning range. You get a more open, resonant sound with eight lugs. Nothing else. Or do you really think that a ten lug Stage Custom...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

I am a bit surprised that they are listed at 1849 Euros. Yamaha stated that those drums are technically slotted below the Live Custom in their lineup. Yet they are slightly more expensive. Live...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

Sure, other drummers also had problems with timing, but Best was REALLY bad. His timing is literally all over the place, he could not play 120bpm for more than five seconds. Bonham and Watts were way...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

The best thing with Yamaha is: Their only custom drumset is not named custom (but Phoenix). :-D

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

It's probably only for phonetic reasons.

What are you playing?
Yamaha Stage.
Yamaha Recording
Yamaha Live
Yamaha Tour

...sounds somehow weird.

Let a metronome run to it and you will hear how messed up the timing is. Nuff said.

Re: New drumset

Re: New drumset

Silverstar and Stage Custom are afaik not using birchwood from the US. But who cares really? Excellent birchwood can be found in North America, Asia and Europe...

A weird trend this "where does...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

The unprofessional behaviour made firing him easier for the whole band. But of course, his drumming was not on the level of Ringo (Ringo played like a Starr. Pete was mediocre at Best). Ringo was...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

I wonder if the TO listened to those made up, fantasy-recordings of someone mimicing Pete Best. Rather a parody than real recording material.

Afaik, Best got fired because of "unprofessional...

Re: What does your kit say about your "drum nerdiness"?

I usually play with a ride, a crash on the left and a rideable crash or a crashride on the far right. Sometimes, it is one crash and two rides. Based on the initial criteria-catalogue, I am still...

Re: What does your kit say about your "drum nerdiness"?

Then almost every jazzdrummer on this planet would be a nerd. Jeff Hamilton has three rides on his 4pc set but no crashes. Is he a nerd? I'd say, the music he plays demands for that approach. ;-)

Re: New drumset

True, but you can get some of those used at a rather affordable price. For those who still cannot afford them, there are the outstanding Silverstars, Superstars (birch), Stage Customs and so on.

Re: New drumset

It is really insane that so many people think nowadays that maple is a superior wood for drums. I hope that this trend ends someday. There are so many great birch-kits out there, that sound...

Re: What size is your main snare? Why?

My main snares are 14x5 or 14x5.5. It is a size that allows a good designed snaredrum to do really everything. High and funky, low and punchy, whispering or roaring. That size gives you great...
