Re: The old Pearl Exports??

Yeah, good point. Didn't even look at the price. But yes, ISS = crap.

Re: Summer musical 2014: Bat Boy!

So I've not posted an update on this thread for a few weeks, because work and life have been pretty chaotic. That has cut into my rehearsal time pretty drastically. I'm genuinely worried about this...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

Oh yes. Pearl later went to the OptiMount on their higher-end drums because of the general dislike folks had for their ISS mounting system. These drums in your link either predate that change, or...

Re: What drummers have marched?

I marched 3 years with sax, 1 year with bass drum, and 20 years with the Army, and I *still* screw it up now and again =P

Re: What drummers have marched?

I'm pretty sure that he did not, at least not in a major drum corps, and probably not even at any school level. He was focused on drumset as a lad and moved to London while quite young in an attempt...

Re: So,I Got a Brass Sensitone..

Take an old used head, completely intact. Turn it over so that the hoop is pointing up and (if you so desired) you could pour water into the underside of the head like a bowl.

Then place it on top...

Re: Do you think it's time for your favorite drummer to retire?

I agree, that had to be a real bummer to watch that show. But it was one show on the tour, and there may have been some issues you weren't aware of -- everything from a bad or malfunctioning monitor,...

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

Same, in the outside pocket of my cymbal case, along with a drum key for the locking nut on the bottom retainer. The key then goes in a holder on the hi-hat stand until it's time to pack.

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

I used to when I carried all the hardware in one case. Now the hi-hat stand just goes in the car in one piece.

Either way, you have to take some precaution not to bend the pull rod. I used to...

Re: The matching snare

I've never owned a matching snare. I'm thinking someday I might pick up a blue strata snare to go with the Ludwigs, but I'm very happy with my metal snares.

Re: East Coast get together, 8/9/14 planning stages

What's NAMM timeframe? I have a ton of vacation time.

Re: Why is it you never see threads saying....

I think it's because, like snares, cymbals are so individual in their sound and application that nobody buys a set of cymbals usually. We identify a sonic need and we fill it with a single plate.

Re: So,I Got a Brass Sensitone..

For that sort of sound (thank goodness it's a normal over-the-shoulder home video), tune the snare-side high and tight, batter side medium to low, about a full turn to turn and a half lower than the...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)???

Sure looks like a Supra. As far as I know they didn't use Imperial lugs on anything else. Worth a look in person, especially at that price. Even if all the chrome has flaked off it's still a great...

Re: How do you feel the day after a gig?

It depends on a number of things, not least of which is what the genre is. I can imagine if we're talking about a hard-hitting 3-hour rock or metal gig, the feeling will be different than a...

Re: Trimmed down kits

I think the small kit made its comeback in heavy music for a few reasons:

1) Economics - way cheaper to buy 4 drums than 8 or 10
2) Quicker to get in and out of clubs and festival stages with...

Re: Cajon players - rock back or hunch over?

Most of my cajon playing is done on an LP slant-front cajon, but even still, I tend to rock it back. Even less stooping for me.

Re: Summer musical 2014: Bat Boy!

First band rehearsal is in the can. Truth be told, I'm never happy with these rehearsals for several reasons:

1) We can't do full sound reinforcement in these rehearsals -- which means I end up...

Re: alternative tom arm/mounts for this kit...

In your case I would consider buying a double tom stand and fitting it between your bass drums. That might get the toms just a scoche closer to you.

Also, even though the Mapex tom arms are...

Re: The best kits we've ever made - Honest Capture videos!

Funny thing today, Andy... on a Facebook thread, someone was asking "want some opinions, what do you like for your drumheads, tuning, etc." and when I answered Evans, the fella shot back with, "I am...

Re: Tuning tip

I just put my forehead in the middle of the drum. Makes my fillings rattle.
