Re: Whats a respectable practice time For a beginer

I think you should guage yourself by your aims. What do you want to do with drumming? pub gigs? recreational/hobbyist? Pro? For recreation i would say 30 mins to an hour a day will do you fine. If...

Re: Do I Need A New Drum Teacher?

Yep I agree with everyone else here, 4 years is not enough experience at all. I consider myself a decent drummer but would not consider myself a great teacher, and I've only played 6 years. Many...

Re: Isolation heaphones help

I love my shures. Do a great job of isolating and very clean and clear audio production too. Come in various price ranges based on driver specs, all have the same decibel reduction/isolation. Very...

Re: My new Mapex MyDentity kit

Those gibraltar one legged snare stands are great, rock solid quite surprisingly and more room for pedals. Less flexibility. Nice kit too
Any chance of a vid or soundclip at least?

Re: Periphery drummer Matt Halpern leaves Mapex for Yamaha

Yamaha doesn't seem like the kind of company that drummers go with for heavier styles of music. They are definitely one of the top drum companies, but most drummers who choose them play lighter...

Re: Goosebump Songs!

Yes, I forgot this one. We played a version of it in big band two years ago, the end of the drum solo and the build up to the end was just so epic! I loved it :)

Re: Goosebump Songs!

Yep, although it doesnt do it for me personally, comfortably numb is one I hear often. Music is a very powerful thing. Imagine a party or a movie without it. Possible yes, but as good as with? Never.

Re: Accidentally hitting rims and sticks while playing

I reckon the best way to not hit rims is to get as much precision in your playing as you can. I think gavin harrison is a great example of this. The black spots on his coated heads have a 1cm...

Re: Goosebump Songs!

Very cool, I wonder if you can ever listen to a song so much that you lose this effect. I reckon for some songs that feeling will never go away. How it would feel to be able to write a song like that!

Goosebump Songs!

Just up late and thinking, listening to music,

What songs give you goosebumps?

Some that are always consistent for me are:
A Change Of Seasons - DT
Hotel California - Eagles
Solo in Sultans...

Re: Dating band members

I would say so, haha.

Hope it works out. I would say if it doesnt work out, it will most likely end in the parting of the band.

Re: Need help designing drum stick storage.

How many sticks would you need being stored?I think Something that held a few pairs of 5B's would be fine for me, but then to be able to accomodate brushes at the same time. It depends on the gig...

Re: How do you learn a beat from a song?

I can just hear it and play it, however not everyone can, whether they transcribe it and then learn it, or just spend 20 minutes listening to each groove to analyse it and then try and recreate it. I...

Re: How to create the best groove for the song

If you can analyse the style of music and then if you have a knowledge of a range of grooves that fit certain styles, you can modify it slightly to fit the song. For example, a basic jazz swing, a...

Re: What Exotic Veneer to use?

Yeah the Koa does have a lovely quilting/curly look to it. But it does not seem to have much grain. I was watching a john good's exotic woods video the other day. He had one wood where the quilting...

Re: What Exotic Veneer to use?

Ive never thought of using leather to finish a modern drum. Would look pretty cool though, and it would have a nice feel. I wonder how it would affect the sound?

I may have to end up making a few...

Re: What Exotic Veneer to use?

That would have turned out really cool. Unfortunate, maybe someday though!

I have found a really cool website that produces many veneers and many thin ones that would be suitable for wrapping...

Re: What Exotic Veneer to use?

Wow, that is some incredible wood. I have read that it comes from the heart of a tree so it is only possibly to render a small amount from each tree. No wonder it is so expensive. I wonder if anyone...

What Exotic Veneer to use?

I am building a snare from pre made keller 10ply maple shell, 14x6.5 dimensions. I guess not really making but assembling, so to speak.
Anyway, I love exotic woods and timber finishes and wondering...

Re: High hat connected to left bass drum

Adelaide is also terrible for sourcing parts and drum gear. It is a shame that the retail situation here is going downwards, but the companies dont stock anything compared to what you can find...
