Re: What's your latest purchase?

Awesome drum! I let one of those go a few years ago, and Iíve regretted that decision ever since.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Up for sale is a 5-piece Tama Star bubinga kit in dark green cordia finish. Inner veneer is cordia as well and looks better than the exterior! Simply the best made, and sounding drums on the planet....

Re: Anyone ever use the Porters and Davies stuff?

I'll respectfully disagree with aspects of your post. I'm just a ham and egger drummer who plays bar gigs and occasional festival-level shows. My Porter and Davies BC2 system is superior to the...

Re: A shame, but long rumoured :(

Hard for any upstart, even one with a pedigree like Sakae's, to break into a highly competitive and crowded field of drum manufacturers. Superb craftsmanship and knowledge unfortunately are mutually...

Re: All copper shell snare

The Tama sounds more open and airy to me, with a fuller note. The Q is more focused and a bit louder. Big difference is how well the Tama does when tuned low if that is you preferred tuning style. As...

Re: All copper shell snare

This beauty arrived today. Hand-hammered 1.5 mm shell. Brass flanged hoops. Sounds out of this world great.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

This beauty arrived today. 1.5 mm hand-hammered shell and she sounds out of this world good. Brass flanged hoops so Iím hoping they donít tarnish like typical gold hardware.

Re: 24x14 vs 22x16 - Can't Decide!

You're saving an extra 2" of depth with a 24x14,no? I prefer the 24 with a shallower depth on a small stage.

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

Google Longo Drums ó badges hideous enough to compete with Mapex. The irony is that Longo makes finally crafted instruments that sound great.

Re: Theory: Nobody wants anything new

As long as there are knuckleheads like me, well past the point where I actually ďneedĒ anything, who will purchase two high-end snare drums in one week, this industry will survive. A new product...

Re: Q Drums Steel Snare

So you wouldnít think that two drums made by the same builder using the same construction methods, and the same materials except for the shells themselves, could be so different, yet they are.

Re: Q Drums Steel Snare

Lol, best I can do for the moment is post a video from the shop where I purchased the drum. One tuning and they muffled/dampened the heck out of it. Doesnít show this beast at its best but here goes:...

Q Drums Steel Snare

My Q Drums Gentlmanís series copper spun drum sounds so great that I decided to get a sibling shortly after learning that Q came out with brass, aluminum and steel versions. Now Iím not generally a...

Re: Titanium Snare?

I have three of Alan's drums. One of them is an "all Titanium" model. The shell, lugs, strainer, hoops, and even the tension rods are made out of titanium. The drum sounds closest to a really good...

Re: DW owners-do you tune to the "stamped" note?

This! As hardware is added and the wood ages or becomes affected by humidity, that fundamental note may change. The stamped note has some marketing value I suppose. I do, however, believe there is...

Re: Pics gone...

Floor toms mounted on stands vs legs. They've become out of fashion for good reason. Too much weight for stands and harder to position.

Re: Recommendation for Small Snare Mic

Another vote for the e604. My go to mic for toms because of their compact size and durability if I inadvertently whack one. Iíll often use them for my snare as well for live gigs. Not as good as my...
