Re: Has anyone started playing out after turning 50 years old?

Never too late to learn something new, whether it be a new instrument, painting, photography, etc. Learning new things not only keeps your brain active, it keeps you interesting to other people.

Re: Does anyone actually do gigs with large bass drums any more?

It's not the size of the bass drum, it's the motion of the pedal! ;-)

Re: Current drumming sucks

I feel your pain and here's how I deal with it.

Right now I'm doing a lot of work out of Marvin Dahlgren's "4-Way Coordination"

I find that in each new section, I have to break it WAY down. ...

Re: WFL III Drums

Never played any, but saw some photos of the snare drums a while back.

They look like a trust-funder's pathetic attempt to somehow stay relevant in a business that's completely passed them by.

Re: Good buy in San Antonio

Those toms have no mounts drilled, so adding leg brackets would be easy.

Good buy in San Antonio

These are not mine and I don't know the seller, but if you need something like this, it's a good buy.

Re: NDD: Craviotto Center Stage !

Welcome to the Craviotto club!

I see you have been experimenting with heads. Right now I have Ludwig heavy coated (slightly thicker than ambassadors) and they're great, but I know they are very...

Re: Can I Make Snare Beds Wider?

Usually, wider beds that will accommodate a 42 strand snare are also on the shallow side. Older wood snare often have fairly deep beds, which would be difficult to modify to widen.

Re: Hoops

Update to my earlier post:

I did get Craviotto wood hoops for my walnut snare and after several gigs where I've played lots of rim shots, I really see no damage. They are certainly more durable...

Re: Proper way to list drum sizes

OMG. You'd have to have a cargo van to schlep that thing around!

Maybe just one up, one down, and one bass for be bop gigs. :-)

Re: Proper way to list drum sizes

The standard is H X D, but I hate it.

A 12" dia. tom could be anywhere from 7" to 12" but they ALL USE 12" HEADS!! That is the most important dimension, IMO.

Re: $15000 per Week

I could see that for Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman perhaps, although it does seem rather high. Most of the others? Not so much. I wonder if they meant 5,000 a week.
