Re: What's your latest purchase?

I just bought a Pearl Sensitone aluminum in 14x5.
I'm very impressed with the sound and playability!
This thing is so resonant and sensitive, even when the snares are tight. It has a really nice...

Re: Please help - is this bearing edge normal? (Picture attached)

If you are not sure of the flatness of the surface, turn the drum on the same area of the surface. If the same amount of light comes through when you turn the drum, it's the surface that's off. If...

Re: Pearl Music City Custom.... Whaaaat?

Pearl has their good reputation for quality drums made in Taiwan.

The Music City drums are wrapped and lugged in Nashville.
It's a new thing with these drums having them finished in Nashville. ...

Re: Pearl Music City Custom.... Whaaaat?

There's two opinions.
Lots of good builders differ on whether drums should be taped or glued all over.
Glued wraps are near impossible to repair. People need to see if they can tell a difference in...

Re: Best wood ever for a snare drum??????

We live in a cofvefe culture.
I found an old newspaper from 1856. It was made by typographers who transposed the stories upside down and backwards with metal block letters, with no typos.

Re: Impact pain

My amateur internet doctor advice is read all about BPC-157 and/or high dose fish oil, and decide if it's the way you might want to try.

Re: Forum Views Drum Gear vs. Forum Views Drum Technique..

One of my best friends has been too close to the reaper a few times and has now decided to buy all sorts of nice musical instruments.

He has maybe a dozen guitars, a couple keyboards, a slew of...

Re: Beautiful!

They always have been expensive. Tama, Yamaha, pearl, DW can be just as expensive if not more.
They’re still in business being one of the oldest drum companies, they must be doing it right.

Re: Changing Tom depth

Can you borrow a 20 to see how it feels?
I would think it would be easier to raise the throne, snare and hats an extra inch or two.

Re: 22/10/14?

Pass on it.
It's not your preferred sizes and if you want to buy more drums that price will inflate quickly.

I bought a used Reference Pure set with 22, 10, 12, 16 with bags for 1500 $US.
A...

Re: Forum Views Drum Gear vs. Forum Views Drum Technique..

In theory and in philosophy, my goal is to never be copiable by a machine.

If I have to play a simple beat I want to play it with drags and nuances that tell everyone who hears it, that a person...

Re: Forum Views Drum Gear vs. Forum Views Drum Technique..

Technique discussions don't interest me much.

I prefer the philosophy of drumming discussions much more.

What I can't stand is when people expound on the virtues of the money beat and the "it's...

Re: C&C Drums Europe

Why not ask C&C directly about how to buy their drums? They might give a good insight.

It's also irrelevant to fears of any eastern-bloc scammers.

Re: Simon Phillips solo - HD

A very nice solo, but I can't help remembering a clinic i watched about 30 years ago. He was flying around the drums backwards and forwards with the bass drums doing doubles.
He's doing more melodic...

Re: Does anyone actually do gigs with large bass drums any more?

Bo,
You worded your reply in a very elegant fashion, and I agree with your opinion and sentiment.

I played a few gigs with 18, 12, 14 and while it's true that the drums can be mic'ed to sound...

Re: Seller's remorse

I say get those new Pearl drums in a nice classic finish and then decide if you still want the old set.

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

My vote for the worst badge in the business goes to Yamaha for using a motorcycle logo for a drum company.

*Edit* I just found out it's a tuning fork. It's now good logo!

They were designed by Otl Aicher. He was a famous German designer who designed the Lufthansa logo, and the person who made the pictograms for the 1972 Olympic games.

Re: SONOR Drum series help

German Sonors are smaller diameter than their foreign made models. 1/8" smaller.
The German drums are far superior to their outsourced variety if you want the Sonor sound, otherwise their...

Re: Theory: Nobody wants anything new

North, Peavey, Jenkins, they all made something unique, but didn't conquer because most people want to look staid.

Does the Reso-7 and other "Steve Gadd" type of gear count, like the PS3 and...

Re: How important is wood type and shell construction for a kick drum?

I notice a large difference between birch and mahogany bass drums.

I have a Sonor birch bass drum and a Pearl mahogany bass drum. the birch is 22x17 and the mahogany is 22x16. The birch drum is...

Re: Talk About Emptying The Bathtub With A Tablespoon

I think the concept is to make a fat, flat tone without dampening.
It's valid.
Benny Greb mentioned in an interview he often tunes like that. Even Buddy said he didn't care if a lug was loose if...
