Re: How our perspective changes

I was lucky to have very understanding parents growing up. I got my first kit at 13, and played at full volume in the basement from then until I left at 21. They didn't even complain when my friends...

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I'm a fan of large kits. My fav was a 9pc dbl bass Ludwig Rocker. I'm now playing a 6 pc. It doesn't matter much to me whether I am using 2, 3, or 4 toms. The one thing that bothers me the most is if...

Re: Holy Drum Hoarder Batman!

I see this ad posted on CL every few weeks. Cash only, and you will pay a premium for anything not junk. He wanted 800 for a 402.

Re: Tastefully Overplayed

Not sure about "tastefully overplayed", but Nicko McBrain is one of my favorite drummers. He is pretty busy, but I can't imagine hearing Iron Maiden songs with Phil Rudd sitting in.

Re: Transporting a drum set when homeless?

If the drums mean that much to you, you really need to find a place to stash them and maybe get a pair of bongos as one person suggested. I have never been homeless, but I have lived in places where...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

Watch Metal Mania on VH1 Classic late Saturday nights. If you don't get it, it's on their website. Check out the drummers in the 80's videos. You don't have to dress or sound like...

Re: Trimmed down kits

I'm the opposite. I miss the 7 and 9 piece double bass kits. I miss the power toms and bigger tom sizes in general. Give it another 10-20 years and it will probably cycle back around.

Re: Mystery Ludwigs

Is it just me, or does that floor tom have some seriously long lug bolts?

Re: Buying first kit, 2 options, which kit would you go for?

I would go for the Mapex. The drums are better, and you will hate the cymbals included with the Tama kit real quick.

Re: How do you stabilize a virgin bass drum that jumps up and down?

Make sure your bass drum spurs are all the way out and are biting into the carpet. You might want to try one of these that attach to the front bd hoop:

Gibraltar Bass Drum Anchor...

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

Bo, I don't know if you've been around Harleys lately, but the new ones haven't leaked oil in a couple of decades. My '05 hasn't leaked a drop, ever. I have a friend with an '03 with over 100,000...

Re: Bad habits and what you struggle with now.

I have a 26 year bad habit of stomp and bury. Anyone got any tips on how to break the habit?

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

I don't have any cool, vintage gear like others here have. This oldest piece I own is a pair of 25 year old Zil A rock hats.

Re: Which wrap for my new Ludwig Classic Maple?

I once had a Ludwig Classic in natural maple finish, and my next kit will be the same. If I were to have a wrapped Luddy kit, I would go for WMP. I would not get the black oyster. I am just tired of...

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

Late 80's Camber cymbal pre-pack. Trash can lids would of been more musical. A hundred more bucks would of gotten me A's.

Re: Completely Gutted! (Warning: Graphic Images)

Sorry about your misfortunes. Back in the 90's, my parent's basement flooded. My two Ludwig bass drums delaminated. Moisture is not kind to drums. I hope Gretch/dealer/shipper get things sorted out...

Re: 4 piece vs 5 piece kits

When in doubt, get the extra drum. I bought my current kit 18 years ago and I'm still regretting not getting the extra floor tom.

I have a 7pc. Right now, it's set up that way. Sometimes I take...

Re: Buying First Drum Kit

Used cymbals are fine as long as they don't have any cracks. You can usually find quality used cymbals used for half of what they would cost new. Check Craigslist and eBay. don't be in a real hurry...

Re: Pearl World Series .. question!

The World drum series was a mid-level line one step up from the Exports. The rack is probably worth $200-250-ish. If the drums are in good condition and sound good to you, I guess they are worth $600...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

AMEN!!!!
I still regret not getting a 16x18 floor tom to go with my mahogany/birch Starclassic kit.
The next kit will be a 9 pc. because you just never know.....

Re: Newest tools

The drums look very nice. It take it that you are a lefty, but I cannot get my brain wrapped around how I would play a kit set up like that. One of the most unique setups I've seen in quite a while.

Re: Where do all the drum sets go?

I keep looking for all the big 7-9-10 pc. double bass kits that were sold in the 70's-90's. They seem to never show up on CL or at GC or a local drum shop. I guess most of them have been hacked down...
