Re: Sound proofing Idea

FYI: Foam is more expensive than standard batt insulation and has WORSE performance for sound damping and sound proofing.

If you really want some good damping look into making your own acoustic...

Re: Top 5 Metal Snares

I'll throw in my vote for this snare as well. Awesome for value, tons of volume, beautiful shell finish, and it has a nice crack. Essentially it's an upgraded sensitone.

Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

I'm with eclipse here. If they didn't have the foresight to warn you but had obviously planned it in advance I'd say "tell me when the song is over".

It's their professional responsibility to give...

Re: How stupid is this?

I just went through setting up my kit again, (and probably will again soon, something ain't right), and the kick size definitely effects how the toms are placed. I find that my 12" x 9" has to be...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I think you're on your own with the red = trying too hard.

I will say that Red doesn't look that great when it's a wrap but it's awesome as a stain.

PS: that yellowed white yamaha is looks...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

Red drums should be banned??!! I picked my Vision kit because of the Ruby fade that's on it. There was a white wrapped Vision kit I also could have gotten but just like my Velvetones vs Oak stage...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I just picked up two pairs of Vic Firth SGRE sticks which are Matt Grenier's signature stick. They're in the middle of a 5A and 5B with some added length and the dry tumble finish is nice on the...

Re: What would be your drummer nickname?

Mr.Noodles is what my band calls me, which is a joke on me being half chinese. The other drummer before me was called "Big Red" because he's a massive scottish guy with firey red hair hahaha.

Re: Using splash cymbals

Oops, I see what you meant now XD

There's no wrong place to play a splash cymbal as long as it fits with the song. I find I use my splashes when a crash would be too much during a groove or a...

Re: Using splash cymbals

Within easy reach is the best answer I can give you. They're a nice small cymbal than you can place pretty much where ever is most convenient. I place one just to the left above my ride and one...

Re: Show your kits that I don't know about

Wow you're pretty selfish if you have all this glorious info you've gathered over the years but won't help out someone who's just getting their knowledge base started. How the f*** is he supposed to...

Re: Just bought my first kit. How'd I do?

I like the look of the kit! and I think you got a good deal for $450 CAD.

Let us know how it sounds.

Watch it be a priceless persian rug XD, certainly an upgrade to the thick black rugs I'm...

Re: Why do the wooden hoops on this snare have flat straight sections?

Seems like it's for knee clearance around the drum since the wood hoops are probably adding an inch to the diameter of the drum. I know that I've smashed my knees into my snare on a few occasions and...

Re: Show your kits that I don't know about

Check out the Sabian/DW Edge snare that they made a year or two back. Those are really beautiful drums, the bearing edges are made from Sabian B20 bronze. Only 50 were made.

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

Thanks!

I'm a big fan of exotic wood finishes on drums, I've drooled over many DW kits haha. I was ready to save up for a custom kit with a really nice finish but I stumbled into the Velvetone...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

When I was getting my second kit I was looking for sound first and finish second. I had the choice between a red stained set of Yamaha Oak stage customs or the Mapex Velvetone kit. The sound on both...

Re: Building my first drum

Edit: My reason for building a snare is I've always wanted a more mellow sounding snare versus my balls to the wall Chad Smith snare. I have the wood and hardware on hand to make it so why not? While...

Re: Building my first drum

I'll definitely have some questions once I get into making a central form for the drum. I'm planning to make a router jig that will round the outside while the shell rotates on the form. Then once...

Building my first drum

Hi guys I'm going to be building my first drum soon and wanted to start a thread to log the progress. It'll be a 6 1/2" x 14" stave snare drum, made from quilted western maple that me and my dad...

Mixing decimals and fractions... SMH

It sounds like one of their machines is actually out of spec to have similar flaws on both drums. Makes me wonder if other Ludwigs of the same size have...

Re: Mapex Saturn lV - drum nirvana??

I ended up getting a Velvetone kit and I have to say that the Walnut/ Maple blend is beautiful to the ears. You get the high and mid tone punch from the outer Maple plys then this nice fat bottom end...

Re: I like cheap snares

I managed to get my Chad Smith signature snare for $110 a couple years ago and it's everything I've ever wanted from a snare. I started out with a Pearl Sensitone but I eventually ran into some...

Re: New Pearl masters MCX = Horrible!

I would have to agree with what the OP is saying. My drum teacher went from an old top of the line Mapex Kit to a Pearl MCX and it just didn't sound as good. Most noticable was the upper tom that...
