Re: Ever bought a recording just because it featured the kind of drums you have?

Never bought a recording because of the type of drums used on it. Bought tons though because of the drummer who played on them. Discovered some great music that way. Pineapple Thief comes immediately...

Re: The ALUMINUM Snare thread.

Different strokes. We'd have nothing to talk about if we all liked the same things. I do find that the Joyful Noise drums can be a bit finicky to dial in, possibly because of those crimped snare...

Re: Who's got the best brand name...

I like Joyful Noise. The biblical reference might appeal to Christians but others may just like the description of the sound our favorite instrument makes.

Re: Boutique snare drums-roadworthy?

I've giggled locally many times with my Joyful Noise drums without issue. I'll caveat that by saying that I'm a one and done strainer flicker but it's my experience that boutique snares, and I own a...

Re: Shine Drums

It has to be said (again): Mapex. Sounds like a feminine hygiene product.

Re: The ALUMINUM Snare thread.

What a coincidence Charles, my favorite aluminum is the same drum, though with a different finish. This drum was a one-off with the finish created by Peter Kellett, an artist who used to specialize...

Re: A repost of my Guru snare drum comparison thread

I must have missed your original thread Larry. Enjoyed this very much. The padauks have a very recognizable tone to me. So musical. I better have gotten that one right at least as I own two of them,...

Re: Heel Spurs/Plantar Fasciitis?

My chiropractor would manipulate locked joints in the arches of both feet which were the cause of my intense heel pain. He also advocated regular stretching, both hammies and calves, but not the...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

So this is rather different for me. While I find many SJC Drums to be hideous, their barbershop wrapped finishes appeal to me. Sweetwater had a yellow tag sale for select drums so I took a chance on...

Re: Dw collectors purple heart

Congratulations. What a great sounding snare! Sounds very similar to my 45th anniversary DW snare. I attribute that sound that you love more to the construction methods and materials that DW employs...

Re: Pros and Cons of rack mount vs. snare stand mounted tom

While a snare stand will reduce resonance, it's rare that it's to the point of choking the drum, unless you've tightened the heck out of the arms that hold onto the drum. Often, snare stands dampen...

Re: Moving on

Be frank and avoid burning bridges if you can. On more than one occasion I've found myself playing in good situations with a former bandmember whom I played with in less than ideal conditions in...

Re: Trying to decide dilemma

I disagree that most brass snares are black but I digress. While a percentage of potential buyers may prefer a matching snare, few will pass on a sale because of the lack of one. Also you won't get...

Re: Being sensible and a Pearl SSC kit ;)

Iíve hated the finishes offered for that edition of Sessions. That blue is growing on me though. Nice kit Bo.

Re: Well this is humbling: Hit Like A Girl, Bonham edition

Turned out ok? Buddy was a deeply flawed human being. He was an egomaniac who treated people terribly. Not a nice guy so no, he didn't turn out ok. Amazing how we put people on a pedestal and...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

My two favorite metal snares, a Joyful Noise brass TKO and Tama Star Reserve hammered copper, are both 8-Luggers. Theyíre very open, expreressive and resonant. With that said, I own terrific 10-lug...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I have owned several high end kits over the years and have finished my journey for the best drums to my ears (and eyes), settling on five kits. Guru and Tama Star do it for me. My Sonor Pro Lite...

Re: Drum tuning Differences

For me, yes. For each drum I tune the reso to the shellís fundamental note and the batter a bit lower. Just how I roll. Works for me. Every kit I own has toms at least 2Ē in diameter apart from one...
