Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

If they offered Signet in any of the traditional sparkle, oyster or onyx finishes, I'd probably get one. But then I'd want portable bop sizes too. And well under a grand.

Having played them...

Re: So...where do you keep your spare sticks?

I used a chip clip 4 stick holder on the hi hat stand for many years. I never found it to be ideal.

I use the Stick Ark now and love it. Four sticks within easy reach and with enough separation...

Re: Brand Loyalty

So, when our favorite drummers switch brands after years of playing and pitching one brand, we should acknowledge that it is acceptable for them to do so, right?

Re: Brand Loyalty

I'm an odd duck because I don't have any loyalty towards drums and to some extent hardware, but I am a true-blue Sabian guy since 1982. I played them before Chester and Phil did!! And through the...

Re: Help needed to find gretsch series (pics)

I'm gonna say that looks like an early Catalina Stage based on Gretsch's archive photo of that series. Which also looks to be an exact match to your kit.

Re: Does playing covers change you?

In my youth (and ignorance) I played original metal and hard rock with friends. We thought we were pure and undiluted, unlike the tripe that was popular at the time. I had a watershed moment and...

Re: Length to Diameter

That's a killer bass drum, as you pointed out. I had the same one. Don't do it. I can't imagine what you would gain. Plus, you didn't really emphasize what you're hoping to achieve. Just a bad more...

Re: Bison Drums

I know a guy with a Bison snare. It sounds divine.

Second, the Phattie (Dennis) post just sent a shiver up my spine.
(I wasn't here in 2011) I enjoyed his drums. RIP

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

I stand corrected. Clear tubing is ideal. Forgot you'd need longer screws when adding more gasket.

And everyone bags on Ludwig for lug splay...geez :)

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

I would be inclined to add a rubber shim gasket of my own design before I would start dipping the hoops.

Small sheet of 1/4 rubberized material should do the trick. Pretty simple to use the mount...

Re: Anyone own of have experience with Atlas Mounting hardware?

Are you copying me LOL?

There is a range of lug holes Atlas will work with. Best to check measurements first on any kit that someone hasn't personally put them on. Tama for instance. I do know of...

Re: Anyone own of have experience with Atlas Mounting hardware?

The answer is yes. And there are some good threads on this too.

And the other answer is yes, do it. I would totally retrofit kits with them.

Re: Going to shows of a band you got rejected from a good idea?

This happened to me about 4 years ago in a side project. We played about 8 shows over the course of 3-4 months and everything was going great. One day I found out the singer wanted to bring in his...

Re: Funnest Gig you've ever played?

Too many to choose from. "Mantown" sticks out because of the crowd and the lingerie show that popped a few eyballs. Then there was New Years Eve 2007 where we played til 4 a.m. and stopped briefly...

Re: 5x16 inch (diameter) snare...anyone?

From DW's site:

The Ballad snare is a 10x16" snare drum on legs. Itís an auxiliary snare designed to give drummers low-end punch for slow ballads and heavy backbeat applications. Made using our...

Re: Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

Hmmm

Ludwig kit (probably not a press release) with DW hardware??

Who could be using or playing such a (prototype?) kit?

These would surpass my desire for CM and Legacy instantly. Mahogany...

Re: What a bummer :-(

I had a similar thing happen on an Ayotte tom. He listed it 10X8 and when I got it, I put it up to my existing 12X8 and was like...Uh Oh Spaghettios-10X9!

Seller was cool about the refund and I...

Re: SKF Blog: A Great Drum Photo is Still Worth 1,000 Words

I'm always amazed by Buddy's poor posture.

The ads that I loved were the 80's Ludwig and Sabian ads, sometimes with dozens of their respective artists in them. Often, you could get the poster for...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

Having read through this, it seems getting 'fired' isn't such a bad thing. Let me briefly add my recent story.

Three years ago, I was approached by my ex-bass player to form a one-off benefit gig...

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

I use DrumArt.com and you can get cling-ons that peel off. Never tried those but would be very easy to slap on.

I play in two bands but one plays only about 5 times a year. In those cases, I find...

Re: Good and bad customer service.

I tend to shop locally or online for certain things.

My most recent purchase at Stage Drop.com was excellent. Although the wrong size riser section was sent, fast follow-up, a return auth and the...

Re: Incredible funk/fusion chops and licks in simple R&B Songs

I am a funky drummer trapped in a rock band. Here's what I do and my approach.

I will take songs like What I Got from Sublime and funk them up. BUT, not the whole time. I will build it in...

Re: Drumming without shoes - caution

I play in socks because I like to slide my feet all over the pedals.

The worst incident was last summer at a wedding gig. I was really getting into my Stevie Wonder breakdown piece, went for a big...
