Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Multi-ply drums. They are the McDonald’s of the drum world. They’re everywhere, boring, and uninspiring.

We’ve got lighter kits (Oriollo aluminum), moisture-proof and tougher kits (Jenkins-Martin...

Re: Best budget recording drums

Could you buy second-hand gear from a shop that sells new items as well? You can get 3 times the quality for the same price. That budget just won’t let you have the best quality if you have to buy...

Re: Interesting Observation Regarding Drum Quality and Sound Preferences

Re: A re-statement of the obvious

I think it’s a combo of average age being old, and really good moderation. And the fact that drummers just seem to get along well as a group.

Re: What makes....

What about hard bop? And what about rock drummers who swing very slightly, like Bonham? LOL

Re: Very high pitch snare sound

Either get a shallow cast shell brass snare and crank it really tight, or get a 12-inch or 10 inch snare.

Re: Is practicing heel-down worth it?

I think the main key for speed, hand or feet, is to play lighter and lighter the faster you go. A lot of people including me tend to play with more intensity when trying to play fast.

Re: better tecknique on pillows, than praktise pad !

Re: best walnut snare?

Those are beautiful. I’ve got a walnut hollow log set on order from Antonio Drums. I wish Hovland would do whole kits. I’d rather have a kit made in this country, just because international shipping...

Re: Do your doubles sound like singles?

Anybody want to share their experience on that?

Re: Do your doubles sound like singles?

Absolutely. Vinnie and Joe are not gods. Just humans with tremendous ability and drive. What took them 5 years to develop might take one of us 12 years, but once you’ve got it, you’ve got it.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn Micro Kit

Put some suspension mounts on the toms, and it would be a great kit for low-volume gigs. But not interested at $1900.
