Re: Going from a USA Pork Pie to a USA Ludwig Maple classic - what to expect?

I’ve got a set of the maple Club Dates and I absolutely love them. Really fat tuned low but they sound like Gretsch round badges tuned high. I’ve never played the mahogany version, but I have no...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

I love the Magnetic Idea, but it looks way too much like Randall Mays marching stuff. Iíd rather have a nice chrome tom mount rather than something that looks like two marching snare carriers mated.

Re: Blackrolite Tuning Woes

Thanks guys! Yeah, the Remo no collars seem to be a cool head. You can crank them tight without the bearing edge starting to sit below the bearing edge. Iím going to look into picking up a new set of...

Re: Blackrolite Tuning Woes

The reso may actually be original to the drum. The wires are as loose as I can get them with crispness, and not really tight by any stretch. Snares are also stock Ludwig wires. Now I’ve done a bit of...

Blackrolite Tuning Woes

Hi Drummerworld,

I’ve got a Blackrolite on my set right now, and I really like the sound it can make. But, I’m having trouble with snare sensitivity, or more the lack of it. It’s got Stock Wires,...

Re: Pearl Session Studio Select??

Those are good drums from what Iíve seen. Made right in the USA in Nashville! Bo probably knows much more on these than I do, especially given the fact that he toured the plant in Nashville recently...

Re: The TRUTH Behind Led Zeppelin: When The Levee Breaks

There’s a guy on YouTube who made an edit of it, and I’ll link that here.

Re: Bop Kit Shootout - Sonor SQ2, Canopus RFM, Ludwig Classic Maple

After watching the video, I think I like the Ludwigs the best. Iím a fan of that classic fat Ludwig tubbiness at a low tuning, but a solid bop tone tunes high. On the topic of the Ludwigs being...

Re: Anyone ever ported the batter kick drum head?

Iím actually near that goodwill chain in VA, so Iím really debating jumping on it.

Re: Can you date these Tama Silverstar drums?

No problem, beatdat! Looking at the photo, I can say with 99% accuracy that those are Titanium Silver Metallic Silverstars. BTW, they’re great drums! I even have a set myself in blue sparkle that was...

Re: Can you date these Tama Silverstar drums?

Iím not seeing any pictures of the drums in the thread, can you post some please? From the research Iíve just done, Gunmetal Gray was a color that you could get on drums like the Granstars and...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Rick, those Slingerlands look phenomenal! That ribbon mahogany is quite the finish.

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Wow, I even own the DVD that clip came from and never noticed that! I guarantee a standard rail consolette wouldnít last a day with Bonham. ;)

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Ian, you actually bought your old kit back? That's amazing! It's always fun to hear stories like this on here. I'm actually in the DC area, so I'll have to check Bill's out next time I'm around...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Thanks Tony, it was getting a bit ugly yesterday. Alex deleted all of his posts threatening other users and telling me that surely Iíve never played or owned the Rogers drums because I donít think...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

I have not personally owned one, but I got the opportunity to play on one through my private lessons instructor. The only modification made to it was removing the Swivo mounts from the tom shells and...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

I’m not trying to throw more fuel in the fire, but Rogers was definitely the first modern tom holder with the Swivomatic. It was light years ahead of the rail consolette system. If it wasn’t super...

Re: George Way Cordia Walnut

Holy crap, that kit looks fantastic! I really love the George Way stuff, they seem to really capture that vintage vibe well. That finish is amazing, too.

Re: Ludwig club date???

Iíve got a set of 20/12/14 Club Dates and I absolutely love them. The shells are that super tubby Ludwig sound thatís straight from our favorite 60ís and 70ís rock records. Iím running Coated G1ís...

Re: Is This a 1966 Ludwig

Ok, so Iíve figured it out. Rattlin Bones, I actually think your drum is the model LC-557 ďPower PiccoloĒ drum. The size is listed as 13x6, but Ludwigís done weird things before with sizing before...

Re: Is This a 1966 Ludwig

Thanks Jbonzo, I didn’t know about the brass and silver badge difference. Also, I’d check the inside of the drum to see what the color is. If it’s birch, it might be more of a reddish color, like my...

Re: Is This a 1966 Ludwig

No, that’s actually a Monroe Badge snare. Ludwig moved their plant from Damen Ave. in Chicago to Monroe, NC in 1984. When they did so, they changed the older gold keystone to this newer chrome badge....
