Re: Any word on the new Yamaha stuff, yet?

Yeah, I'm bummed about this. Very, very surprised. I thought for sure it would be a new kit. They better start introducing stuff soon, because they really don't have much of a selection like...

Re: A few recording questions

I didn't read every reply in detail, but yes, properly tuned and killer sounding toms may "ring" when you play around the kit and the tom close mics will pick that up. It's quite annoying.

Don't...

Re: do i need a hi hat mic?

For recording, overheads will pick up the hats VERY nicely. I do alot of home recording and have a hi-hat mic, but I NEVER use it. I don't even record with it hooked up anymore, because it's just...

Re: Is this a vintage 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite?

I feel like a moron for not immediately noticing the lugs. Duh. I was so focused on the shell.

And by the way, I have a reissue Acrolite in the 6.5"x14" config and it's my favorite snare drum...

Re: New kit coming

Keep us posted! I've been eyeing these for a while myself, but I just can't justify buying one. They seem super cool IMO.

Can these sit in the car in cold/hot weather without being damaged? ...

Re: Is this a vintage 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite?

Thanks Jim. I'm not thinking about buying it or anything. Just curious if this is one of the "rare" drums I've read about or a new reissue made to look old?

Is this a vintage 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite?

I think I've heard before that these existed in very small numbers. Is this one of those that has been modified with a super sensitive strainer?

Re: Dry heads for ludwig blackrolite acrolite snare?

I think I'd get just about any snare and experiment alot with different heads. Some heads can make ANY snare sound SUPER dry to my ears.

PS - Also, I don't get the "aluminum is dry" comment I...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I wonder if these are successful or a flop? Does anyone know? (talking about sales)

Re: YAmaha or Sakae

I have one of the newer Made in China "Live Custom" sets and a Made in Japan "Club Custom" set. They are quite different, but the quality feels equal to me. I also owned a Made in Japan "Oak...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Thanks Steve. Actually, your original reply where you overreacted was kind of the "typical east coast attitude" we're talking about. HA HA!!

Oh, I'm just teasing ya! Thanks for explaining. You...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Hey Steve, I have a question. So I live and work in the Midwest. I've worked for many years with several different people from the East coast and I can say they have all had similar personalities....

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

I think they ring a little more when attached to the bass drum. I'd rather that not happen, but it's certainly not a big deal and not noticeable in a band situation.

To be honest with ya, I guess...

Re: Which is cooler - Forks Drum Closet (Nashville) or Explorers Percussion (Kansas City)?

We are now married! :)

We always plan to do a bunch of other things, but to be honest, we do kinda plan the destination around cool drum shops. HA

She's the best, man.

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

Cons:

- Toms ring when I hit my bass drum

Pros:

- I can pick up my bass drum and rack toms in one go for quick band changes on stage
- I am free to move my cymbals stands anywhere I want...

Re: 10" 16" 22" Setup?

I think Benny Greb also uses a single 10" rack tom too. I've done it quite a bit and it sounds fantastic with either a 14" or 16" floor tom tuned up a little. With the kits I've owned, the 10" toms...

That's a REALLY pretty set, Thegshow. I dig it. I think these sets were around $2k new.

Re: Pearls MCX Masters Maple Snare Drum?

Yeah, my 5 1/2 version can be tuned to have lots of ring if wanted. I've thought of selling it several times, because it kinda just sits there. But I got it for a good price and it's a quality...

Re: Pearls MCX Masters Maple Snare Drum?

Wow, this is a pretty old thread! :)

Since then, I bought the 5.5" x14" version of the Pearl MCX maple snare brand new for a steal (clearance at a local shop.) I've had it for almost a year, I...

Re: When soundmen attack

I agree with you totally, sir. I fully expect all soundmen to be assholes and am shocked when they're not. I basically just try to have minimal contact with them when setting up in between bands in...

Re: When soundmen attack

I agree. I don't have the patience or time to deal with this when I'm setting up, so I'd rather just get up and running with a good sound quickly and get to playing.

Too much hassle arguing about...
