Re: The Stuff Drums Are Made Of

Its a harsh reality, or perhaps a reliving one, depending on the type of person you are, but I believe you are correct. No matter how many times it needs to be said it really comes down to sound,...

Re: 4 Piece Configuration Question

Thanks for the advice caddy, I see the 22 10 12 14, but usually with a 22 x 18 marketed as a fusion set. Slightly different but same idea.

4 Piece Configuration Question

I am a huge fan of 4 piece setups. They ergonomically and visually fantastic, while not restricting what you can do on a kit a large amount.

My problem, I am drawn to the Ludwig and their Legacy...

Re: Top Level Kits

5 days or 5 weeks? I see their QD program has 5 weeks as opposed to 12, but I couldn't find a 5 day.

Re: Yamaha Drums

For the MCAN owners, how do you find your drums like to be tuned?

I'm having trouble finding the sweet spot for all of my drums save my 10 inch rack tom, the bass in particular is giving me alot...

Re: Tom Setup

It seems like I'm the minority in that I like my toms mounted right above my base. I don't like base drum mounts however, so I use duel cymbal / tom stands to mount them. I find that using a double...

Re: Good standard cymbal-sets, which to choose?

Like others have said, get some used high end cymbals. In short, you won't regret it.

Re: Feel or Technique, importance?

Great point. Not to restate what you just said but the essential bit is getting a nice accessible groove. Play to suit the song, not vice versa.

Re: bombing on stage?

Wise words, having been guilty of this I can tell you it doesn't tend to pan out well.

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Grace by Jeff Buckley. Matt Johnson is a brilliant drummer and some of the stuff in it is quite hard. Almost there, just transcribing along with it so others don't have to suffer the way I did.

Re: Feel or Technique, importance?

Definitely both. When I first learn a song I concentrate on just getting the feel of it, getting a pleasant back-beat. Once I have a good feel, then I focus on the specifics and the technique. I like...

Re: Pearl Reference vs Yamaha MCAN

Re: Which Snare ???

I always recommend the Ludwig Black Beauty. I have the hammered 6.5 with tub lugs and its far and wide the best snare I've ever owned. I'm sure the 14 x 5 is just as good.

Re: Custom snare?

Get a black beauty, you will NOT regret it. I've owned dozens of snares and played many more and it far outshines any of them. They are all purpose snares, that shine in every musical genre and...

Re: Favorite metal drummer?

I love Martin Lopez's style and his feel for the groove and the kit. To me, that is unbeatable. Hes not the fastest, but has an incredible style.

Re: Bonham Kits... does any company make them?

I think Bonham played a 13 tom is his very earliest time at Led Zeppelin, but for the most part he was known for playing a 14 x 10 and later a 15 x 12 tom, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: The British or the Americans?

Very hard question. Both countries have added so much to rock and popular music, and the lines and patterns of influences are so blurred that it makes it very hard to pick a definite one. I guess its...

Re: Best Drum Track Of All Time

My "best" drum tracks are usually just the ones I have the most fun playing.

Train in Vain by the Clash is a fantastic one.

Anything by Zeppelin. Notables maybe being Whole Lotta Love, Achilles...
