Re: What is the most important thing about drumming?

As far as purely technical aspects go .... I would say that timing is the most important aspect. If the timing is bad, nothing else matters!

As far as drumming as a whole goes ... I think that...

Re: DW drummers

And that's why drummers like Jim Keltner, Peter Erskine, and Alex Acuna have all recently switched to DW after playing their previous companies' drums for decades. Right? Not to mention those darn...

Re: DW Drum help

its true that DW's lugs are bulky and kindof take away from those gorgeous finishes ... but at least that only makes a difference on small toms like the 8/10" toms! Like Fat Elvis, I still think...

Re: Starclassic Bubinga Omni-Tune

"Eh................."?

What? I've played one of the Bubinga omni tunes. Bubinga is an absolutely amazing wood ... so warm and smooth its ridiculous. The drums sound phenomenal. I actually own...

Re: From which pro drummer would you like lessons ?

I'd go for lessons in touch and feel from Jack Dejohnette and Abe Laboriel Jr! And then lessons from Vinnie, because his stuff is all just unbelievable.

I haven't watched the sample clips of the new dvd yet ... I'm about to ... but I really wonder what he has left to cover after his last dvd!

Re: How much do you jazz drummers spend on your foot work?

Ah well then that's my mistake. I was under the impression that a blast beat was something else entirely, and I only had heard metal drummers talking about it. And is there more than one blast...

Re: How much do you jazz drummers spend on your foot work?

Well I know, but it still bugs me that so many people don't say the subdivision that theyre talking about. Because sometimes theyll list a more common tempo like 100 or 115 or something. That's...

Re: How much do you jazz drummers spend on your foot work?

One more thing ... can people start saying the subdivision that they're talking about?! Because it's really annoying because 200 bpm tells me nothing. 8th notes ... that's pretty cool. 16th notes...

Re: How much do you jazz drummers spend on your foot work?

Wait blast beats are hand foot rolls? I thought they were like, straight sixteenth notes on the bass, snare, and ride all at the same time. Well of course hand/foot rolls are great! Although I...

Re: How much do you jazz drummers spend on your foot work?

Not that I don't that that is a cool approach and everything, but the arguement against it, is that it is definitely a waste of time. For example, I don't play metal, so why would I waste time...

Re: Most underrated drummer

I second the Joey Kramer vote. Although its possible that I just missed all his attention seeing as I was born in 1989.

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

The thing I need to work on (not now, cuz more things are important) is my left foot slide technique with shoes on. I had gotten it down great with barefeet months ago, but now that I've switched to...

I think I meant to ask this before but I forgot ... any chance I could get an audio or video example of the weckl9? Cuz I'd be quite interested in knowing what it is!

Re: Jon Dolmayan

One thing I don't understand is why people say to take a listen to I-E-A-I-A-I-O if you want to hear his drumming for real. Because there really isn't anything special to the drumming in that track....

Re: Mangini practice technique. Wow!!!

Perfecting the motion is important ... but so is developing the muscles to be able to do that motion with any amount of rebound (pillow=low tuned tom). I'm finding it more effective to practice on a...
