I used to do this back in the 60ies. But instead of blowing with the mouth I connected a foot pump to the hose, such having a pitchbending pedal (!!!!).

I suggest to start with "Letīs Twist Again" by Chubby Checker...no kiddin! Teach the kid to love the sound of a snaredrum and to get a feeling for that forward moving groove and rhythm

If your snare buzzes whenever you hit a tom, this will save you a lot of practise time trying to to do a single handed roll on the snare with your other hand while playing the tom...enjoy it, record...
