Re: "New" kit arrived damaged - need advice.

Re: a simple little trick that helped me. Maybe it can help you.

Yep, I also keep a drum key on my keyring. Just a simple no-frills Evans key.

Re: A little thunderstorm - Tour zebrano video

The attack of those toms! Holy cow do they ever sound wicked! Loving the low end from them too, and I bet they project really well.
Bass sounds superb as well, and although I'm not a fan of the...

Re: Snare Drum Tuning: The Neil Peart Sound

Re: "You're a drummer? Oh can you play..."

Yeah, I get that question all the time. Even from my best friend of 15 years. We'll be listening to the radio or his iPod, and he'll look over at me and ask:

"Can you play this?"

Happens all...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

I've got my clutch fairly loose on my top hat. I like the sloshiness that that entails. I also find that having it super tight just chokes the hell out of the cymbal, and it doesn't respond as nicely.

Re: Your Favourite Songs To Cover / Play Along To

Got a bunch of fun stuff I like:

Give Me One Reason - Tracy Chapman
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
The Negative One - Slipknot
Open Car - Porcupine Tree
Great Balls of Fire - Gerry Lee Lewis...

Re: Crazy hard work has it's compensations - my playground :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I was aware that grain orientation played a part in shaping the sound of the drum, so that all makes sense. I guess I'd always assumed segmented and stave were...

Re: Crazy hard work has it's compensations - my playground :)

Lol, definitely not posting as your wife.

I do have a legitimate question though. It may have been answered before, but I've not noticed, so here goes.

On the last picture you posted, I see...

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

Nothing too bad, but yeah. I once showed up at this guitarist's house, to audition for a blues band. Turns out the singer was also the singer for a prog band I auditioned for, but I turned them down...

Re: Restoring hardware on an old kit

I'd use some form of lubricant for sure before putting them back.

Also, that star pattern you refer to is to a torx key.

Noticed that myself, too.

Other than that, the drum looks stunning. Congrats, and enjoy!

Re: Too many choices.

Those are all excellent kits. I'd throw my vote in for either the Tama B/B or the Mapex Saturn. Both are some of my favourite kits.

Re: New Tama StarClassic Bubinga setup

Sweet kit. I've always loved the Tama Starclassics, which is why I have a Starclassic maple as my main kit. Super solid, high quality... and they sound superb. Enjoy that gorgeous kit.

Re: dumb question about keyholing

The thought of deliberately keyholing my cymbals gives me the heeby-jeebies. No way I'd do that. I can just tilt my cymbals to get that "sweet spot"...

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

I agree entirely, they do kill the feel a lot.

What is your practise space like, size-wise and area it's located in?
