Re: albums with missing drum kit elements

Hysteria has no crashes. None. Its something I have always noticed about it. I loved Pyromania, but hysteria always sounded flat and overproduced

Re: Ever had a band or genre of music that you shouldn't like...but you do?

Not an 80s pop fan at all. But I love The Police. One of my favorite bands, and I don't listen to anything else that sounds even remotely like them.

Re: Who decals their cars?

In my tuner car days I would put the stickers of the companies whose mods I ran, but that was a common thing in that scene. Now-a-days I don't have time for any of that. Just gotta take 'em all off...

Re: Oi !! He's right, I can't do it!

Wow, were we separated at birth? This was going to be my exact response. I swear the melody part of my brain can only do one melodic thing at a time. Guitar or sing. Never both.

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

Umm, singers have two out of three. But again, that's just like your opinion man.

So mine is: Drummers have the least amount of expectations. Can you; read music, play rudiments, tune your kit,...

Re: Seriously, how many notes do you think you play in 3 hours of music?

Well I don't know about notes on a drumset. But a guitar has 47 notes and I play about 2/3 of them. So I will say I play about 31 notes :)

Re: Who Here Loves Rock

Rock isn't dead, its just back where it belongs; underground. It was always meant to be music for a subversive counter culture. When guys in suits start buying it, well its jumped the shark a bit.

Re: Distractions While Playing

Playing in early 90's hardcore shows I had to learn very early on to play through anything. I played the guitar more then and at the front of the stage you would get stagedivers, crowdsurfers, guys...

Exactly! The only rules are - there are no rules.

Re: What is your least favorite concession you made in your set up?

I am surprised at how many people are compromising on their setup. I have everything right where I want it. I have a small 5 piece setup with a couple crashes so its all pretty easy to put things...

Re: Stage Etiquette article

Well written article man, but I wonder who your audience is. Some of it is very beginner stuff (tuning pedals, hand signals) and then some is directed toward bands playing large gigs (stage entry, no...

Re: Crossroads

Start your own band. Go to shows, find guys you like and get a group together that is a fun hang. Write some of your own stuff, mix in some covers and go have a good time. Forget about money and who...

Re: Drum placements on stage

Maybe this should be its own thread of weird stage setups. I have played a few that make no sense whatsoever.

Re: Should bearing edges look like this?

I have owned a couple vintage kits, from the days when they hand cut the edges, and they varied wildly. But they sounded amazing, so who cares. I have a 67 SG and the frets are a disaster, but it is...

Re: Opinion on mapex

The Falcon hardware is top-level pro quality stuff. I have only played the chain drive pedal, but I will say that it is on par with any other pedal on the market. I have no experience with the hi-hat...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

I have always locked in with the rhythm guitars. Maybe its because in the bands I grew up playing in the bass was generally a disregarded instrument. Whatever the reason its stuck with me over the...

Re: Band member question

I figured this was some metal elitist kind of thing.

I will tell you this. John Campbell of LoG doesn't listen to metal at all. I wouldn't say it has hurt him or his band any. Good musicians are...

Re: Let there be light!

I have a ton of gig pics and in every one I am clearly lit and as easy to see as the other guys. We play at nice clubs with good lighting rigs, so I assume that is why. If I was to spend money on...

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

Two great examples where the fills are so iconic they have to be played as recorded. Changing the fills in Tom Sawyer or 46&2 is like changing the guitar riff.

I tend to play fills the same way...

Re: What is a good drummer

This is actually really good advice. Although the answer from guitar players would be.."sorry, what was the question? I was messing with my pedals."

Re: New Drums Day (DW Acrylic inside)

I have had my set for about 6 months and I have been nothing but pleased with them. I put a set of CS Black Dots on them and they sing like a bird. I am going to pick up a 14" floor tom in the next...

Re: Kick Snare & Hat

I am with you on this Bo. I am a firm believer in the gear on stage matching the aesthetic of the band. If I am at a metal show I want big kits and full stacks. If Im at a rockabilly show I want...

Re: Anyone here ever lose their "mojo" for music/drums? I'm at a crossroads..............

I am going to second what people have said about picking up another instrument. I play the guitar as well as the drums and I will tell you that, although I am a much better drummer, I can express my...

Re: Drum stacking...

Ok that is an impressive job of gear tetris in the back of that car. Drum and guitar gear all in one vehicle. Never work for my band, we need the trailer, but I definitely applaud your work!

Re: When would you take a gig for the exposure?

Its interesting that nobody has brought up buying onto tours. Its more common that most people know and basically amounts to paying to play for exposure. Ive met a few bands who have done it and...
