Re: Snare buzz help - sorry

It's become back ground noise for me and also something that adds some punch to my toms and kick. I too have tried to get rid of the buzz but nothing worked besides throwing off the snares when I...

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

What's everyone's opinion on the Pearl Chad Smith signature snare?

I've had mine for 3 years and got it for $125 on sale. I absolutely love it for playing rock and metal. I have a Evans ST dry on...

Re: Snare wood stain colour

What kind of wood is the snare made of? If it's a white wood like birch or maple I'd suggest something like Jim posted. Other wise you might be best off going natural finish if it's cherry, oak,...

Re: So you're going to a band audition...

Ideal audition setup?

Give me some recordings of your original stuff or a set list of songs your band can play. That way I can practice and at least have most of the ground work done.

Give me...

Re: Who uses Moongel?

I had a lime green sticky octopus that I used for over ring control on my snare, it was awesome.

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

Youtube covers are good to watch if you're stuck on one part of the song where you can't understand the pattern, but I find it's better to look at the actual drummer playing the song. You'll be much...

Re: Cymbals that do not move

Ray Lutzer cranks down his cymbals so they'll barely move...

I like my cymbals medium to firm tightness, they should move easily but not swing around when I'm playing, (typically I'll lose a stick...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

I don't think about independence... it's all muscle memory and learning patterns. So most of my drum practice is messing around on the kit trying to find something new I've never done, then...

Re: Harvard study of time keeping and groove

I think you're all missing the point of the research, it's not humans trying to replicate human time in a computer but determine why human time is better. Why does a chaotic, barely noticable...

Re: Harvard study of time keeping and groove

I had a bass player that had terrible delay with her playing, she wasn't 500 ms off but she was probably around 125-250 ms delayed.

Re: Bass drum and double hitting

I have this issue when I'm wearing shoes and I play drums. I usually play with my socks only so I can feel when the beater is doing a double hit.

Re: The Speed Obsession

There's a certain attraction I find with playing something so fast that it'll explode if a beat is missed. I guess there's an excitement to playing fast, it gets your heart beating and it's fun to...

Re: Drumming Barriers/Plateaus

You'd be surprised that taking a break from playing actually helps in some cases. I spent a few months from my guitar lately and just got back to playing it. I now have some fresh ideas and I feel...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

My unpopular opinion would be that Zildjian doesn't make a nice sounding cymbal. I've tried probably dozens of them in stores with the intent to buy one if it pleases my ears but I've yet to be...

Re: Shoes with Elastic Bands: Yes or No?

Just socks, I can feel better what the pedal is doing. I used to drum with light canvas slip on shoes but I found them to have too much grip for slide.

Neil Peart wears slick bottom dancing shoes.

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

#7

I started out on double bass 3 months in to learning drums knowing that I had to start early or the work to catch up would be hard. I currently have experienced a big jump in my playing and 240...

Re: What drummers need for a gig

Hyde covered it pretty well.

I don't think you'll need a van to transport your drums unless you have a very small car or a huge kit. I have a small '05 BMW M3 and it'll swallow up my whole 6 pc...

Re: Mapex Armory or Tama Hyperdrive?

I don't have much knowledge of these but by looking at the specs on the kits they're both very attractive for the $900-1000 price tags. I wish I had these choices when I got my first drum kit.

Re: How does the quality of a drum improve at higher price points?

To add on to what KamaK said

Sound quality improves similar to acoustic guitars, most people won't hear the difference between a $1000 kit and a $2500-3000. It's about getting that last 10-15%...

Re: Singers dragging the tempo

I've never been bothered with a singer dragging or rushing, but then again I've had the joy of playing with talented singers always.

What really drives me crazy is a bass player lagging or...
