Re: Thought Experiment

I suck enough at a single pedal. I'm not looking to double that fun. :)

Re: Do Your Drums Sound Like Cardboard?

Oh, got it. So in essence, it probably doesn't really matter what the "filler" product is to a certain extent.

Re: Do Your Drums Sound Like Cardboard?

I would be 100% uncomfortable playing these anywhere. You'd have to use hard cases by default. In addition, I'd be scared to death of someone spilling a drink near them, chances of rain, or heck...

Re: A dozen ways to save for gear...

Thanks for sharing this. I have a Taylor guitar that's actually held it's value pretty well. Recently, I've considered selling it because I never play it. It's a 10-year-old "case queen" and...

Re: Shell material effect on sound

Not from my experience. I've not played a ton of different kits, but I have played (and owned) a Sonor kit made of basswood. There is absolutely no comparison in my mind between basswood and...

Re: A dozen ways to save for gear...

Pay with cash, not a debit or credit.

Studies have shown (according to Dave Ramsey) that whenever you actually have to hand over cash to someone else, the little neurons in your brain actually...

Re: What model of Mapex is this

I bet if the person bought them new and wrapped them, he/she probably has just about as much in the wrap as the drums themselves.

Re: Upgrade beginner kit or buy another kit?

This response saved me a whole bunch of time. All of this, 100%.

Re: decent price?

Yup, that's a killer deal if those are the sizes you want.

Re: Ludwig Club dates soon

I feel the same way because a yellow-ed kit that has happened over time is usually not consistent between the drums. I got a set of Ludwigs maple classics in these sizes last week, and I love them. ...

Re: New (to me) drums set!

Here's a pic from my gig this past Saturday. Undoubtedly, the sketchiest riser I've EVER played on. I was in the shade, so the pic really didn't pick up on the red glitter "pop," but they still...

Re: Ludwig question

Got it.

There's a stamp on the inside of the kick drum and floor tom, but the year is sort of smudged, but I think the year inside the kick is 2010. The serial numbers both start with 34782xx, so...

Re: How do I position each of the drums in the kit?

How bad do you need that other rack tom? If you could lose it, you could have a much more comfortable set up.

Here's a pic of my Rockstars with my rack tom mounted on a cymbal stand.

Re: How should I drill a hole in my snare to give it a formal muffler?

My overall philosophy is that musical instruments are tools, and anyone should be able to do anything to an instrument to best make it do what you need it to do.

With that said, I don't find the...

Re: Shall I buy...?

If you have the money and you like the sound, then go for it. They should sound great for just about any genre.

Re: Drum Sheilds

I've played behind a few in a live setting and have never had issues with feedback. However, playing behind a shield will have it's own sound and will probably be a little more "lively" in the mix...

Re: piccolo snare (pros and cons)

If you are on a budget, I suggest the Pearl piccolo. It's the black one. Those can be had for for less than $100 on the used market. Every one I've tried or owned has been really consistent and...

Re: Change of pace

That actually sounds like a lot of fun Larry! There was a lady who used to live close by who used to hunt for arrow heads near my house. We have a couple of large corn fields that run by a river,...

Ludwig question

If I have the serial numbers on a set of Monroe-made Ludwig maple classics, could I get in touch with the company and they give me info on them (Year made, original finish, etc.)? Do they keep these...

Ever had a band or genre of music that you shouldn't like...but you do?

Maybe your friends call it rubbish.

Maybe, on paper, you should HATE it.

But for whatever reason, there's a certain band or genre of music that you enjoy. Maybe it's in secret or maybe you...

Re: Anyone know what kind of gear/model late drummer Derrick Plourde used on his kit?

I have two USA Pork Pie kits and a set of Ludwig Maple classics. However, until I find something that suits me better, I'll be playing my Pearl MCX Master's snare drum. I play that snare with...

Re: What's a good music player to run though mixing board

Yup. Me too. I used my Shure 215 IEM's right into my iPhone. There's plenty of power there!

If you have one of the newer iphones, you can get one of these:
