Re: For those who play at church or not.

So many posts seem to miss the point. The author is generalising about drummers because he has to. Any chuch community will, if they are lucky, have a number of drummers in the congregation. Some...

Re: This video is fantastic! Jojo Mayer is a beast

For all the plaudits, I don't really enjoy Buddy Rich's playing in a musical context. That said, I'll listen to anything Jojo does.

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

That's not over exuberance Andy. No way. That was entirely appropriate for the situation. If that was a recording studio then that would be another thing.

Besides - you gotta have some fun!

Re: My drum teacher failed me.

Mike Johnson, who is well-regarded as a tutor, would rarely change any of his pupils' key techniques, i.e. stick holding or kick drum technique. He is an advocate of working out the best method...

Re: Is "pocket" what you play or how you play it?

Pocket can only be created with a minimum of drum and bass.

Re: Making the best out of a near disaster

That's a great improvisation story.

Who needs stands anyway?

Re: A new drumming hero emerges!

Oh my, he finished off Part 2 with some Weather Report. And he played a difficult Jaco passage on bass.

He is my new idol.

Re: Playing for the song, but still leaving a bit of "yourself" on the track.

I think the OP has been a bit harshly treated and I consider it a worthy question.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned (much) is sound. When I listen to pop the drumming washes over me then...

Re: Drummers who play other instruments also....

I played classical instruments first, then bass for 25 years before playing drums.

Having played bass for so long it helped with my rhythm keeping when starting on drums. But I now realise that...

Re: Drummerworld inventors

Anything that will enable set-up and set-down durations to be reduced. You know those kids play houses that fold up flat. You release them and they spring into a play house. Well I want one of...

Re: The foot is the key to groove

I agree with the observation that the kick drum has become more important than the back beat on the snare. It's also the one thing I really listen out for.

It takes years just to get the...

Re: playing less and keeping time

8ths on hi-hat is the crutch that the OP is trying to free from.

Play very slowly a familiar beat but play 1/4ths rather than 1/8ths.

Try alright now by free to get the feel of playing 1/4s.

Re: Who does this, really?

I have a number of basses and cases for the basses, but the cases I like the best are the ones that are lightest and with least padding. The basses tend to live in their cases anyway so I throw the...

Re: Electronic Roland TD-11K

I use Vex kits but you should be able to turn off the reverb on the toms within the module.

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

Opentune is spot on.

Mike Johnson says make your weaknesses your strengths.

Mountineers and ship Captians have wives too. Somehow they have to work this out. Turn this situation around and...
