Re: need help with learning and subdividing odd time signatures

I like to break up odd time signatures like 7/8 into 3 + 4 since it's much easier to count that way. Prime numbered time signatures will always be hardest as they can't be subdivided into nice equal...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

I work at drill stem manufacturing plant and we have pipe everywhere. I've never considered making a drum out of it though as we're usually using 1.5" - 3" wall tube!

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

I like my top hat nice and loose, I have stiff felt on my clutch so that it doesn't move too much though. If I were playing 13"s I would tighten up the clutch a bit.

You can find locking hihat...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Yeah that's the main reason I don't think it's a big problem as when I play with a click track I'm right on time.

It does hinder me when I'm learning new time signatures, I have to rigidly...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

I feel I should also mention that constant 16ths are the easiest part of playing double kick. They are by no means an accurate way of judging someone's ability to play double kick.

The harder...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

You nailed it, different speeds require different technique.

There's some really awkward transition speeds and addressing those speeds is one of the big things that people miss when learning...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

My greatest weakness is I can't count beats and bars, funny right?

I have never been able to count out what I'm playing and when I think about it I play worse. I've always "felt" when I need to...

Re: 22" x 12" bass drum - 2015 Origin photo's / spec's

So are those lugs only tension mounted? I see no screws holding them on to that lip.

If so that's a very cool design.

Re: Drummers you thought sucked,but...

I thought this too then I realized that he's also singing while playing. If he played anything more it would intrude on the guitar sound which is such a key part of the Eagles.

Watching a...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I've always seen Lady Gaga as someone who stands out from other artists, not just because of her outfits either. She's the only one that seemed to have her own agenda rather than following the...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

It's interesting that you say you always feel like a drummer, because I feel the same way too. I've played far more guitar than I have drums yet I still would call myself a drummer and not a...

Re: Any tips on strengthening the weak foot?

Honestly the best way to strengthen it is to play with it. Play single pedal with your weak side with some basic beats and move up from there. Mind you don't practice only with one pedal, the idea is...

Re: OCD or normal jacking around?

I generally won't adjust things too much, because I make sure that nothing is able to move around or go out of adjustment, but... I'll start to tune one drum and then it turns into tuning EVERYTHING...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

I started music with piano at 9 then got my first acoustic guitar at 15 and electric at 16. Guitar was a really important step in getting me interested in music as it made me realize I could play the...

Re: 24" Bass Drum Depth

My old drum teacher had a 24" x 14" thin shell Mahogany bass drum and that thing could probably kill small animals at 6 feet.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge BTW, always nice to see experienced...

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

I personally use my ride a lot being inspired by The Rev who used it as much as his hats and other cymbals. I have a 21" AAX Stadium ride that I love for it's volume, cut and extremely loud bell. It...

What's everyone's opinion on the Pearl Chad Smith signature snare?

I've had mine for 3 years and got it for $125 on sale. I absolutely love it for playing rock and metal. I have a Evans ST dry on...

What kind of wood is the snare made of? If it's a white wood like birch or maple I'd suggest something like Jim posted. Other wise you might be best off going natural finish if it's cherry, oak,...

Ideal audition setup?

Give me some recordings of your original stuff or a set list of songs your band can play. That way I can practice and at least have most of the ground work done.

Give me...
