Re: How to play really quick hi-hat?

Cpl. Hicks, (nice Aliens reference btw) I realize that there are proper techniques to playing hi-hats fast. I'm pretty sure the Buzzcocks drummer didn't use them. Some of the things I learned to play...

Re: Hi... I need to vent.

DumDrum, you are really good! You are much better and more committed to practicing than I am. I think you are doing amazing! It's so important to remember, the most important thing about drumming is...

Re: Useing drums for "working out"?

I know I was in much better shape when I was playing regularly in bands. Arms, legs, back, everything was stronger and fitter. It's one of the many reasons I can't wait to get back into playing in a...

Re: Looking for Feedback on SPAUN Drums

I have heard nothing but great things about Spaun drums. Someday, when I actually have money, I would love to get a kit myself. Check out the Indoor Storm site, you can listen to each kit if you...

Re: Playing a four piece

I've been playing a 4-piece for 20 years. Do I play to impress? Hell, no! Most drummers don't need more than a 4 or 5 piece kit, and most of the drummers I love play just that. I'm usually a fan of a...

Re: HELP !!!!!! UPS claim.

I have heard horror stories about UPS's shipping. Apparently, they hire morons and stuff gets damaged and mis-shipped quite a bit. Hope you get everything sorted out. Good luck!

Re: Good Setup?

Pretty much exactly like my set up (except for the extra floor tom). I like having my floor tom practically touching my leg too; the closer I can get everything, the better! ;)

Re: Is it a MUST to know all rudiments?

It's interesting, I taught myself how to play 25 years ago, never had any lessons and never practiced any rudiments. I would sit down with my headphones on as a teen and, since I was familiar with...

Re: Topper Headon

Wow, it's a shame that no one has posted for Topper since December 2009. And so few posts. Topper is my favourite drummer. The reason The Clash were able to try their hand at so many different styles...

Re: Ultimate Drumset!!

I don't know about dream kits. but here is a beautiful Premier Series Elite kit in Apple Sparkle Fade Lacquer I would LOVE to have. If I could get it in 10/12/14/20 that would be amazing.

As far...

Re: Drum or Cymbal?

+37. Great cymbals and crappy kit. Apparently, up to 80 % of a drum's sound comes from the head. You can save a sub-par kit (to a certain extent), but crappy cymbals will always sound crappy.

Re: AAX Studio Cymbals

I've had a 20" AAX Studio Ride for 15+ years and I love it! I love a nice washy ride, but it can also sound pretty clean when you need it to. Sounds great live and great in the studio. Great ride, no...

Re: To Let or not to let..another dummer use your kit on a gig.

Wow, their guitar player is a real knob. Unfortunately, it's a necessary evil that drummer share kits at gigs. Whenever I've had to do it, the other drummer brings their own snare, cymbals and kick...

Re: How Long should I keep my Drum set?

Adam,

You don't need to replace the drums, you seem to have a good kit. Like everyone else has said, replace the heads and upgrade the cymbals. Try some nice Evans G1 or G2 heads (depending on...

Re: First Influential Drummer?

The first person to make me really notice the drummer was Peter Criss (I was a kid and it was the '70s). Peart and Copeland were the technical drummers I liked when I was younger, but for the...

Re: Free Drum set with a set of cymbals??

Great deal. I wish my first kit and cymbals were that good. Pro cymbals with an intermediate kit. Damn, I'd take that even now to have a second kit and some extra cymbals. Very nice!

Re: Help Me and Suggest Some New Stuff To Listen To

You could try some stuff that is completely different from what you listen to. Stuff that isn't all about "wow, that drummer just blows me away!", but still has some cool drum stuff.

Try these:

Re: What do you think of this Drummer / Band

I think the drummer does a great job on the song. The band sounded great and was really tight. Good chorus. I don't think the drummer is underplaying. Just because you have great chops doesn't mean...

Re: Should I Wear Ear Plugs...15 Year Old?

Yes! Always wear earplugs. Unless you're playing in a quiet little jazz trio in a laid-back lounge atmosphere, put 'em in. I played in bands for 10 years and ALWAYS wore plugs. Practicing, gigs,...
