Kamak, What are you talking about? You actually can make a full time living as an orchestral player. There aren't as many major symphonies as there once were but there are people playing full time...

The only place jazz seems to be alive is in college campus music schools. If you want to make money in jazz get good enough to teach jazz at a college.. That seems to be the only way to make a full...

If you ever get a chance to look at the book "the history of Timpani" give it a look. There are drawings of how they carried timpani drums into war mounted on the side of horses.

They are names of timpani grips. Any serious timpanist uses a combination of several grips depending on the sound that is required. Much like what most drumset players do.

Toddbishop, Chopbusters by Ron Fink GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that many people know that one. I picked it up in the very late 80's. My son has also used it. Just a fun cool book.

The problem with the internet is that you don't actually have access to the most knowledgable teachers. All the truly great teachers are still in their offices. People seek them out and go to them...
