Re: How to make your own gum rubber practice pad

Back then I used a small eraser that I glued to a thick folder so it won't move. I like hitting small targets as it helps me to focus more and keep my technique clean.

Re: Tip of the day

Hehe. I mean using my body for measurement. I stand sideways beside my hi-hats and the

Re: Is this play along practice beneficial?

Thanks for chiming in guys.

I'll still be playing along to rock but I want to listen more to soul music. Good idea about
recording my band but I only do that when I want to analyze our playing....

Is this play along practice beneficial?

I'm currently playing along to soul, funk, r&b and hip hop in my practice time but my
current band's style right now is alternative rock. How is this going to affect my style, feel,
mindset, etc...

Re: Beat detection apps

Couldn't install Live BPM because of Android issues (not app related) so I went
looking for another and found Beat Detector. It works the same and it's free! I've used
it yesterday at rehearsals it...

Beat detection apps

I just discovered an app called live BPM and it works just like the Beat Bug. All I can say
is that I'm extremely excited on using it at live gigs and at practice! Do you recommend any
beat...

Re: Help with a Practice Routine

I would suggest you include some rock play along in your routine. Pick out a song that
you would like to work on. Learn the song structure, grooves, fills, etc. Record your progress
so you know...

Re: Hitting the snare drums with both hands at the same time?

Based on the vid, the left gives the 2&4 backbeat and the right is doing consistent eight notes
on the snare.

The drummer is using the snare to give a different feel to the verse section. I...

Re: Murray Spivack technique?

This is a very important point. When I first started with this grip, I was really conscious with
my hands at gigs. I would look at my hands during a gig and force my mid finger to be
the fulcrum...

Re: Murray Spivack technique?

Yeah, Chad said Murray was really strict when it comes to studying with him and he would
let you go if you haven't been practicing. 20 focused minutes is more than enough and I think
you have a...

Re: Murray Spivack technique?

Try hitting a drum pad with different fulcrums and listen to the resulting sound. The mid

the Tony...

Thanks so much for these exercises. Tried out Larry's method and immediately felt

the fulcrum.

Thanks to...
