Re: The Speed Obsession

" If your goal is simply to find evidence that supports the beliefs you already have then those articles are all you will need or want to read on this subject."

Nice job assuming. I actually...

Re: Whose voice would you like to have counting on your metronome?

Ha! "Not James Earl Jones? Who wouldn't want Darth Vader counting for you? "

I gave this some thought! To borrow one of my favorite movie lines...

"drumming is life! Get busy and practice!"

Re: Anxiety before a gig

Anxiety or nervousness is normal. Some advice I got years ago was to not think about my performance and especially what I might do wrong, but to think of it as playing music as a band. Most people...

Re: How were drums taught back in the day?

KamaK not sure I agree with this part:
"The post-internet musicians have a remarkable degree of virtuosity"

The ways people learn and the fact that they can watch BP talk about his shuffle is...

Re: How were drums taught back in the day?

I started taking drum lessons in 1963 from an old black jazz drummer from new orleans. I studied proper grip and stroke using traditional grip. As I got beyond the snare I recall the set lessons to...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

My view is that if you put your opinion out on a public forum you should expect it to be challenged. And there is such a thing as a good opinioni and a not so good opinion. If the opinion is not...

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

"I'm not exactly sure about what you mean by forcing things, but I'll assume you mean square pegs in round holes. That much we can agree on, but this reads more like, "leave your own ideas at the...

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

"But you can't get creative without having that foundation... there like air."

I like to think of my playing as the rail upon which the rest of the band rides, never concerned about swerving off...

Re: Whose voice would you like to have counting on your metronome?

Many may not appreciate these but Susan St. James or Demi Moore! Love those sultry raspy voices!

Christopher Walken! That is funny!

Re: I've learned so much here.

This forum has some really amazing and accomplished drummers that I often feel my advice to be not worthy! However I have come to realize I do have things to offer, especially newer drummers. But I...

Re: Gigging Kit Help?

Reconsider your thoughts on used cymbals. Lo end cymbals came with my used kit when I bought it. I have been slowly replacing them. Wish I never bought the low ends (though not sure the guy would...

Re: What would you appraise my kit for?

I would sell shells seperate too. I think with that amount of drums you can get $800-$1000 for the drums.

Re: What would you appraise my kit for?

Can you post a pic? M Series can vary. My 2004 M Series kit is a lot different than a 2005 M series. Different wood. The tell is the badges and lacquer finish. The 2004 is 9 ply maple and the badges...

Re: Would like some feedback on my hand technique

I agree you need to work this out with a professional teacher. It seems to me, and I am no grip/stroke Dr., that you have issues with the orientation of your wrists and the angles of your forearms....

Re: Applications for 13" tom

I don't get the issue. Seems people seem to be succumbing to an arbitrary standard. It is all in the tuning. I have 10 12 13 16 and I am glad I do. I do play covers and am able to make use of the...

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

I line up to the position Bermuda articulated so well in his last two posts. Which puts me in excellant company. I have always hated that jukebox analogy.

Even the extremely basic drum part of...
