Re: How to start?

I suggest looking around for a local teacher. Things will happen much faster that way because you can express your concerns, and he can tailor what he teaches around that. You mainly need the...

Re: New drum kit

Congrats on the beautiful kit! So youíre not gonna complete the vibe and get a Benny Greb snare? That would be a nice addition too ;)

Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

Iím not defending Ludwig. Iím just saying theyíre like Ford. It ainít incredible, but it steadily sells certain automobiles, like trucks and cars that are used for police and government service. ...

Re: "too Busy"

I think this happens to everybody. However, I think you were lucky that this took years. Most times, right off the bat of playing with a new drummer will illicit the "you're too busy" comment ;)

Re: Stage Fees?

In terms of bands, does this only apply to original bands? I've done a lot of cover band stuff and never had to pay a fee, in addition to getting paid as a band member. I had no idea these fees...

Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

Remember when they came out with the blue/olive oyster? It was discontinued two years later because nobody bought it.

Iím not being argumentative, I just believe certain makers are now exempt...

Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

Here’s how it works for legacy manufacturers like Ludwig: they’ll announce something new and cool, and all their younger artists will get on-board with those. Then they sell more Classic Maples,...

Re: 15 inch snare?

What the heck are you talking about? Read what I said again. Iím stating itís a shame that not ALL snare stands accommodate ALL sizes of snare like the ďgood olí daysĒ. Because now itís a more...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Perhaps. But I donít think we have the entire story on that matter anyway, so itís difficult to give advice, just speculation. But as Bermuda pointed out as well, the AFM wonít fight for non-AFM...

Re: New (used) Drums - Pearl Vision

The Vision drums were what replaced, for a short time, the Exports. Pearl tried to discontinue the Exports by offering the Vision line, and that idea just didn't work out. Having owned some Vision...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

On the one hand, I get it. The AFM is there to make sure you don't get screwed. But in entertainment, it's so personal, that even if you fight and win what you're supposed to get, people will talk...

Re: The return of the Gretsch COB!

I got this drum new last year. So itís a 2017 USA Custom model. It weights about 15 lbs. I was debating finding a stop sign badge for it ;)

Yeah, after putting it back up, I donít know why I...

The return of the Gretsch COB!

After having played a wood snare for the last six months - I brought back the Gretsch USA 6.5 chrome over brass to go with the 1972 Gretsch kit. My ears had gotten used to the wooden Ludwig and this...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I think only works if youíre talking about a regular job. Why should anybody have a semblance? Itís all individually tailored to the individuals involved. If Pink really likes her current drummer,...

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

That was educational. I know there are exquisite musical instruments out there, but I didn't know the facts about trumpets.

I agree though. We have nice gear so other drummers can notice and say...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Not sure. But maybe it's the record company believing in the band - or there are other costs involved that the Eagle's were lucky to work into a contract. You figure every one of those guys were...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

They donít. But itís in the guys book. It was just a contrast to today. And that album still sells. So after forty years, itís still making them money.

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Isn’t that by album or by song? Ever since the dawn of iTunes, people hardly buy full albums. Heck, thanks to YouTube, people hardly buy their favorite songs - they’ll just watch and stream it or...

Re: 15 inch snare?

Those are beautiful! But like I said, it seems the manufacturer's high-end offerings can accommodate the bigger snares. For the more gigging drummer on a budget, the mid-range Yamahas, Tama's, and...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I consider myself lucky to have gotten to do what I do. If I donít do it again, Iím ok with it. I will continue my path, but Iím sure glad I have a steady job. I canít imagine drumming being he...

Re: No GAS

No. Weíre staying in CA for now. But weíre looking at bigger and brand new in a gated community. If weíre gonna move, it has to be somewhat of an upgrade. Otherwise, weíll stay where weíre at for...

Re: Albums that had a huge impact on your current playing?

I've noticed my grooving has a certain amount of swing to it - I can do the straight 8th-note grooves, but I tend to swing more than I should rock. And as I look back on my upbringing, there were...
