Jon "The Charn" Rice

Jon "The Charn" Rice is the drummer for the metal band Job for a Cowboy. I'm not much of a fan of "deathcore" or metalcore (metal is so muttled in genre names these days it's hard to keep track), so...

Building a kit - NEED HELP!!!

Hey guys:

One of my favorite guitarists, Ron Jarzombek (Bobby Jarzombek's younger brother) builds his own guitars. Over the past few months, I've been looking to replace my old drum set, which is...

Brian Downey

Anyone else heard of him? One of the first rock drummers I heard along with Bonham and Bill Ward, this guy has some great chops and awesome grooves.

Questions on muffling

I have a set of practice pads - one is an HQ snare pad and the other is a Pearl bass drum pad. Both of them are great, but I'm having a major problem with actually keeping quiet because the pads...

Re: Sean Reinert

I really don't think Sean Reinert gets the recognition he deserves. His playing so tasteful, especially considering that he mainly plays metal and rock. Reinert uses a lot of swung rhythms ("Secret...

Re: Sean Reinert

Here's a solo by him in the Cynic song "Sentiment". Reinert is one of the few death metal drummers who can actually solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16mKq5EK6gU

Overall, just a great drummer....

Re: Derek Roddy playing some killer grooves!

I think he's doing heel toe, too. You can hear it when he isolates his feet.

What song are you refering to? As Blood Runs Black is a band?

Derek:

What do you make of this? http://youtube.com/watch?v=CVo7qxDhgoM

I somewhat trust Batdorf, but one can never tell. It doesn't seem like he's floating, but I really don't know what to...

Re: Danny Carey

Here's an extended version of the video posted by Bernhard. In the very beginning, he's playing Bonhams green sparkle Ludwigs. Seems like a very down-to-earth kinda guy, despite what has been mention...

Re: Blake Richardson

Check out Between the Buried and Me performing "Selkies: The Endless Obsession". This guy blows The Reverend out of the water in my opinion.

Re: The Reverend

I don't like the way he sets up his floor toms; I prefer mine to be parallel to the ground, like my snare.

Re: Vinnie Colauita

I just listened to The System has Failed by Megadeth, on which Vinnie performed. He is like a chameleon; he can perform in so many different styles and genres. The drum work is not very technically...

Re: Dave Lombardo

Dave admitted to this on the video provided in the 1st entry of this thread. He mentioned that he was having trouble with his double bass during the Seasons in the Abyss tour. This was because Dave...

Re: Dave Lombardo (Testament or Slayer)

Dave was with Testament for only one album ( The Gathering, which was great), but he made quite an impression. My vote is for Slayer. The new album is said to be a mix between Seasons in the Abyss...

Re: The Reverend

Not bad.......I'm still not convinced (I didn't think his durmming on "Bat Country" was al that great to begin with). He can do the metal thing, but he really isn't all that different from the other...

Re: Carter Beauford

I'm not a fan of DMB, but Carter has a lot of skill. Anyone notice his hand speed? This dude has some of the fastest hands I've ever heard; he's just as fast (if not faster) than a lot of death and...

Re: The Reverend

I feel the same way. To many metal drummers overuse double bassing. I have found many drum parts by metal drummers which could have been much more interesting without double bassing.

Re: Lars Ulrich

Whatever with the whole ride thing. If he uses the ride on those songs, ok, but he uses it too sparingly, and most of his drumming is crash and hihats. I think Lars' drumming has gone downhill since...
