Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

I listen to the song, write out anything that would be deemed "signature" (like the big tom fill in "I can feel it in the air tonight" by Phil Collins), write out the tempo and try and get the tune...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I see what you did that. ;)

That being said, What I've seen is that they just make something and it gets pushed out on the market post-haste.

Re: Going on Tour would like some advice!

Just make sure you've got performance agreements in place. Also, try to keep enough $ for a plane ticket home if things don't work out.

And if for some reason you ever have to ship your gear back...

Re: ?'s about traditional technique

Here's a video I did several years ago when I was broke, living on a friend's couch and didn't even have a practice pad.

Re: How not to drop sticks

Strange as it may seem, this is my philosophy on dropping sticks- maybe that particular stick doesn't want to be in your hand at that moment so grab another one and use it.

Sticks are living...

Re: Some tips for you GC Drum-Off gladiators

I guess that my feeling about it is this- Yes, it's a competition, that's a given. But if you separate yourself from the competitiveness aspect and lend a more "natural" approach towards your...

Re: Drumming Barriers/Plateaus

When I was in the thick of teaching students, I'd give them a simple illustration of what too much practice on one thing can do. I'd hold up an object in front of them and slowly move it closer to...

Re: drum friends - help me out with this idea...

You could play a straight beat across the top of that and get away with it. It's be like Led Zep "Kashmir" then moving back into 4/4.

Re: How many bpms can you cat play?

I can only play one beat per minute.

And don't beat your cat. Or your fish. Because if you beat your fish, it dies.

Here's my kitteh. I was on the road in Italy and she completely posed...

Re: Question for the Professionals

They send over the drum police and you get your knackers whacked. And since they also double as the mattress police you'd better not tear off those mattress tags because for that, you go to jail.

Re: Singers dragging the tempo

If you're rushing the singer then you're rushing the song. If the song has a certain tempo it likes to click at, then the singer should strive to hear it at that tempo.

Otherwise defer to the...

Re: Snare drum Olympics - help needed - opportunity!

I helped organize and deploy the 2012 Nashville Drum Show & Snare Drum Olympics. Didn't do any of the judging but man it was fun to tune up the 40 snares we had and play them individually!

This...

Being that most...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I went from a 7pc kit to a 6pc to 5pc then to 4pc and stayed like that for 20 years. Now I'm back to 6pc (kick/snare/two up/two down) and lovin' it. The music I'm playing benefits from the extra...
