Re: Endings

Cool concept for sure, as long as the others are expecting it. If I did that unannounced...I get the impression they'd think....why did Larry peter out?

Re: Want to change my heads

A clear, 10 mil single ply head is the most lively your toms will ever be, with the exception of possibly 7 mil clear heads. But then you don't get as long of a note. 10 mil clear is all that drum is...

Re: Yay - after changing focus and making an informed decision....

I think you should incorporate some macrame.

Sorry, I'll shut up.

Re: Ghost notes and shell material (snare)

Optimal ghost note performance lol.

Work those ghosts.

If we're talking optimum, wouldn't a bead shape and size along with strike angle, head placement of the strike and inch pounds of force...

Re: Ghost notes and shell material (snare)

Sounds like what you get .....when ghost notes pop.

Here's a thought....let's cloak the backbeat and pop them old ghostnotes! Yee haw!

Re: Endings

Yea, in a new situation you have to do a quick read to see if you lead or follow during endings. That's why I like them, you are forced to think on your toes. Endings are like snowflakes. Best to do...

Re: Playing the cymbals softer than the drums.

One of my most favorite-est tricks to do on slow 12/8 Blues tunes.... easy too...at the end of a solo going into a verse...about 3/4's of the way into the turnaround, I start a gradual cymbal swell...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

I myself have owned and gigged a top endy sounding poplar PDP X7 floor tom (yucky) and deeper sounding poplar set (Sonor Players). Very strange indeed.

It can go both ways I guess, depends on the...

Re: New here!

Looks like you got yerself a little bleacher affair to hold an entire horn section. I have to wonder how often is that used?

Also, it looks like your bass drum might be a little high in front....

Re: Ghost notes and shell material (snare)

Exactly. It's the law of inverse square. The thinner the reso head, the better the ghosts. Plus their snares all have an inner ply of Ghostwood.

Talent is so last century.

:P

Re: Endings

Endings expose the individual musicians approach to music IMO. Some guys are team players and listen, others are in it for themselves, some people are oblivious, some are timid..very entertaining no...

Re: Just saw "The Wrecking Crew" movie

Next to Jim Gordon, or even in place of him, Roger Hawkins is one of my favorite drummers. I thought for sure the rhythm section on "Respect" was all black guys. What great feel. The Swampers are...

Re: Ghost notes and shell material (snare)

(Said like Al Franken in "Trading Places")

No it doesn't.

Hands of the player. Vinnie could make good ghosts on a First Act snare.

Big bully.

Re: Endings

Wow. Pretty revealing. Seems like only 3 different keys. I had to laugh at some point, it just goes on and on.

Re: Playing the cymbals softer than the drums.

Cymbals sound much more beautiful and complex at lower volumes to me, and lowish volume cymbals are central to my personal playing vibe. The volume at which Frank Beard plays his ride cymbal on "La...

Re: Covering Songs that Have Percussion

I feel the cowbell part makes that song and is essential, so I forego my HH during the whole song and just do the cowbell figure, even through the solo. The extra space and the simplicity of the part...

Re: Endings

I'm surprised to hear that Lar. To me endings are just like one big long syllable where I try and fill as much space as I can with anything I feel like. No time to be lazy, endings. If there's enough...

I have to agree, if I had to trade lives with someone, Hal could top the list. Just for his experiences with all those GREAT people alone. What a life that must have been. Making money hand over...

Re: Endings

We fade one song, "Lay Down Sally". It works good usually.

One thing I noticed, you can do the song great, but if the ending hiccups, it tarnishes the whole song. Fresh in the mind and all.

Endings

Of songs.

Are you like a kid at Christmas when it comes to pulling off endings or are they more like the bane of your existence?

Any rules of thumb you follow? Do you have a lot of variations...

Re: Ghost notes and shell material (snare)

Really, a person's individual playing style has a lot to do with the ghosts. Imagine if they're not there at all, compared to someone who uses them really well, and then you have everything in...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

If you don't truly know what you want, don't buy anything. Exercise control at the wallet. You should really, really, really want the drums you plan on buying. Would you pursue a GF that doesn't...
