Ludwig Restoration

Does anyone know if Arkansas Drumworks is still around? Have a friend with an older set of Ludwigs interested in some restoration. Or, if anyone knows about another restorer, please suggest.

Re: Talking to the doctors now....

Re: Sport Injuries That Stop You Drumming?

Had an right inguinal hernia a few years back which kept me from the kit, until it could be repaired. Ditto for some right foot surgery, which followed a serious staff infection. More recently...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

My 2 cents worth-nothing wrong w/2 toms on the bass drum. Have played a 20" kick for years (2 up one down) so it's quite manageable, particularly w/a Yamaha tom holder, which is one of the best in...

Re: Ever forgotten your hihat clutch?

Can't say that I have. I always store it in the middle zippered pouch of my cymbal bag. That's not to say I sometimes forget to zip it, but so far so good.

Re: Big Band drum thread.

Zickos- Thanks for your post and to all who play big band music. As close as I got, was the pit orchestra in HS, where I played in Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man". I got to start the show, every...

Re: Snare Cord - What Knot?

Use a square knot. It won't come undone.

Re: I went away and everything changed!

Bienvenidos! Lots has changed. I took about 15 years off (total) before resuming 15 years ago. There's a lot more to choose from e.g. drums and materials, cymbals, heads, sticks, hardware, thrones...

Re: Shoes and Gloves

Used to play barefoot or in socks, but after a serious foot infection a few years ago, I try and wear whatever shoes I'm comfortable in-which most of the time are some Danskos leather clogs, or Ecco...

Re: Importance of a good drum throne?

The above was the best investment I made, since I resumed playing nearly 15 years ago. No brainer. Buy one.

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

I've incurred that problem from time to time, playing a 20" x 16" Yamaha MCAN with an EMAD batter and the stock Yamaha reso, which has a 4" 4 o'clock port. I get great sounds in the basement with my...

Mercifully, the browser redirect has gone away, though I was positive I wasn't the only one who experienced this.

Re: Head Suggestions 2010 Maple Custom Absolute Nouveaus

Thanks Lefty. Posted in another thread area as well (Gear/Heads & Sticks) and the Super 2s were suggested, as were the Response 2s and even a thicker (12 mil) one ply. I like the idea of a thicker...

Re: Head Suggestions 2010 Maple Custom Absolute Nouveaus

Thanks Dutch. I've heard they are good heads. There are just so many nuances from the varied heads and manufacturers that it gets too expensive experimenting.

Head Suggestions 2010 Maple Custom Absolute Nouveaus

Do any of you have any head suggestions re: the 2nd rack- 9" x 12" and 14" x 14" floor? These are 4 year old MCANs. Am looking for a bit less ring on the larger toms, as I play a lot of old school R...

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

Hate? No. Would I go buy and use one however? No. I just don't quite "get" them, and on the kits I've played which have had them, I've had a tough time substituting them in place of good 16-18"...

Re: The Muscle Shoals Sound

Caught it on one of our PBS stations a few weeks ago. Agreed, very well done. My initial thoughts were that wallets were taped onto snare batters during recording sessions there, e.g. Wilson Pickett...

Re: Sensitive drummer?

As a young (junior high) percussionist, we had a band director whose mantra to us was that "drums were to be felt and not heard". Good God we used to laugh our asses off to that, but the longer I've...
