Re: Help with figuring out the Mapex Line

Exactly right! I'm very mindful and clean to begin with (cases for everything) so even bringing my Starclassics (beautiful indigo burst finish) to a recording session made me nervous. Everytime the...

Re: Help with figuring out the Mapex Line

Totally agreed man. People may think I'm nuts, but I loved the sound of the new Mars kit (2015) over my Tama Starclassic B/B and Gretsch Renown. I sold the Tama and Gretsch kits without a regret....

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

Brilliant! That was a great laugh! It also made me think of some uber-pretentious guys I know that this article truly portrays - spot on in some ways.

Thanks Mike, you made my day!

Re: Derek Roddy here!

Derek,

This actually brings to light a point you made in the MD 2008 appearance about versatility. Plus your playing at that show is proof.

I also really like the point you made about...

Re: Too Old To Play???

I think the mistake people commonly make is limiting themselves and not pushing to what they may perceive as their limits. I see really brave handicapped people everyday pushing their limits - they...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

RIP Chris. One of the best bass players on the planet. Fragile was such a huge influence on me as a kid. He passed peacefully in his sleep the same way as my Dad did - same disease, almost the same...

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

That depends. The targeted audience for news on him, then yes. For everyone else who doesn't know or care who he is, well no...

I think when you spew enough venom, especially in your 70's and...

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

No one likes a Negative Nancy... Luckily he's quickly on his way into oblivion.

Check it at 0:16

Seriously though, I think he was the perfect drummer for the Eagles, who wrote perfect parts for the songs and sang while doing it -...

Re: Why doesn't anyone make quieter drums?

I recommend the Sonor Safari kit. I bought one years ago for a band I joined (and later quit) because my drums (and the drummer) were too loud for the small clubs we played at times. They did the...

Re: DW bass drum muffling pillows

That's the Weckl Remo muffle http://www.daveweckl.com/remo.htm. He got the idea from Simon.

I use this with the PS3/4 and the remo reso head and it accomplishes both: full sound and less beater...

Re: Achieving Greatness

I don't know about greatness, but I reached a point where when listening to my favorite bands like Sevendust, Meshuggah, Chili Peppers, Fishbone, Living Colour, Pantera and etc., I stopped...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

Totally agree with the OP, it is the Scientology of companies, now we need a Jason Beghe of the drumming community to blow the lid of this as in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHb0BZyF5Ok

I've...

Re: Mapex Mars vs Armory - worth the higher price?

I just bought a 6pc Mars for a great price. I simply can't believe how great these drums are for $599. The SonicClear is a total advantage. I'm actually keeping the stock heads. This may end up being...

Re: New find! 80's Wailin Smash video = ultimate epicness :)

Fair enough I'm backing off as you are right and bring up a good point - nothing wrong with rebellion and I certainly celebrate it and admire everyone who does it, hell I shouldn't be playing and...

Watched the video from the initial post of this thread and accidentally saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSoZUzMJ7DY (I wanted to wash my eyes and ears out with Sriracha Sauce)

Let this...

I'm about to sell my Tama Starclassic Performer Birch/Bubinga, figured I'd start here first, then CL.

Anyway, they were bought NEW in January this year and used only twice: Once for a gig where...

Re: Dave Lombardo: Metal's Greatest Drummer?

Yup, it's documented. I was gonna add that earlier on, and I'm sorry but Dave can't do a lot of what Gene does. Come to think of it, not many people can, he's just unreal...

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

Damn you are fortunate. I'm kicking myself today because I never got to see them live back then. I'll look for footage on the net. What band did you play with back then?

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

Dude - Candiria rules! I remember hearing them on WSOU back in the day, and I was floored! I was like: this is the best music I've ever heard!

Fast forward to today, the stuff I like really is...

Re: Blake Richardson + Tomas Haake + Elliot Hoffman

I would suggest Jay Postones from TesseracT. He's quite unlike any prog metal drummer I've heard. Anup Sastry from Skyharbor and Intervals is another monster.

Re: Dave Lombardo: Metal's Greatest Drummer?

No disrespect to Dave or anyone, but, I'm sorry, the answer is no.

He's very good at what he does for Slayer. I'll leave it at that, on a positive note :)
